System Requirements Document (SRD)

Project Name: wild-app

1. Introduction

The wild-app project, also known as Pick My Advisor (PMA), is a civic-tech platform designed to empower Bengaluru residents by bridging the gap between citizens and their government. The app leverages the Karnataka Sakala Services Act 2011 to automate grievance reporting and ensure accountability through legally mandated timelines. PMA V2 focuses on scaling the platform to include all 369 wards of Bengaluru while enhancing backend functionality, legal automation, and user experience.

This document outlines the system requirements for the next phase of development, including backend activation, PDF generation, email integration, Razorpay-gated Expert Marketplace, and admin tools for advisor verification.

2. System Overview

The wild-app (Pick My Advisor) is a mobile-responsive web application built on React and FastAPI. It uses a master CSV file containing 103 columns of ward-specific data to power its features. The app is designed to:

  • Provide ward-specific information, including MLA contacts, helplines, and emergency services.
  • Allow users to raise civic complaints (e.g., potholes, garbage, streetlights) with geolocation tagging.
  • Automate legal notice generation based on the Karnataka Sakala Services Act.
  • Facilitate access to professional advisors (Advocates/CAs) through a Razorpay-gated marketplace.
  • Enable admins to manage ward data, verify advisors, and oversee complaint resolution.

The app is currently in its pilot phase, covering five wards (Shivajinagar, Hebbala, K.R. Puram, Rajajinagar, BTM Layout) with plans to scale to all 369 wards.

3. Functional Requirements

As a User:

  • I should be able to auto-detect my ward using GPS.
  • I should be able to raise a complaint by selecting a category (e.g., potholes, garbage, streetlights).
  • I should be able to upload a photo and geotag the complaint location.
  • I should be able to track the status of my complaints (Pending, In Progress, Resolved).
  • I should be able to generate a ₹99 legal notice for unresolved complaints.
  • I should be able to access professional advisors by paying ₹499.

As a Ward Advisor:

  • I should be able to view complaints assigned to my ward.
  • I should be able to update the status of complaints (e.g., Resolved).
  • I should be able to forward complaints to officials via email.

As a Professional Advisor:

  • I should be able to receive legal queries from users after payment confirmation.
  • I should be able to respond to user queries through the app.

As an Admin:

  • I should be able to upload a CSV file to update ward data.
  • I should be able to edit individual ward records directly in the admin panel.
  • I should be able to verify and approve new Ward Advisors and Professional Advisors.
  • I should be able to view and manage all complaints across wards.
  • I should be able to send emails to officials listed in the CSV.

4. User Personas

  1. Citizen (User):

    • Primary user who raises civic complaints and accesses ward-specific information.
    • Needs a simple, intuitive interface to report issues and track resolutions.
  2. Ward Advisor:

    • Local activist or representative responsible for verifying and resolving complaints.
    • Requires tools to manage complaints and communicate with officials.
  3. Professional Advisor (Advocate/CA):

    • Legal or financial expert providing paid consultations to users.
    • Needs a secure inbox for receiving and responding to queries.
  4. Admin:

    • Oversees the entire platform, including data management, user verification, and complaint resolution.
    • Requires advanced tools for CSV uploads, manual edits, and system monitoring.

6. Signature Design Concept

Interactive Civic Dashboard with Geolocation and Legal Automation

The homepage will feature an interactive map of Bengaluru that auto-zooms to the user's ward based on GPS. The map will display clickable ward boundaries (using GeoJSON polygons) with real-time complaint stats (e.g., "12 unresolved issues in Shivajinagar").

Upon selecting a ward, users will see a bento-style grid of 12 icons representing complaint categories (e.g., potholes, garbage, streetlights). Clicking an icon opens a sleek form with fields for description, photo upload, and geotagging.

The legal notice generator will have a dynamic animation where the user's complaint transforms into a PDF preview with their name, issue, and legal citations.

Micro-interactions include:

  • Icons that "bounce" subtly when hovered over.
  • A progress bar showing complaint resolution timelines.
  • A glowing "Verified" badge for official contacts.

This design ensures the app is visually engaging while maintaining a professional tone.

  • Scalability: Support up to 1 million users and 369 wards.
  • Security: Ensure data encryption for user details and payment transactions.
  • Localization: Support English and Hindi interfaces.
  • Accessibility: Comply with WCAG 2.1 standards for inclusive design.

PDF Generation:

  • Python ReportLab for legal notice creation.

Email Integration:

  • SendGrid or Gmail App Password for SMTP.

Containerization:

  • Docker and Docker Compose for local orchestration.

9. Assumptions and Constraints

  • Users must grant location permissions for geolocation features to work.
  • The app will initially support only five pilot wards before scaling to 369 wards.
  • Payment gateway integration assumes Razorpay's availability in India.
  • Admins will manually verify new advisors before they appear in the marketplace.
