Project Idea

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to outline the system requirements for the "Project Idea" as requested by LOOP. The project involves creating an offline website that processes uploaded PDF and DOCX files according to specific instructions, ultimately generating a final PDF document with a structured format and bookmarks.

System Overview

The "Project Idea" aims to automate the process of converting client packages into a structured PDF format. The system will handle various document types, apply specific formatting rules, and generate a final PDF with bookmarks for easy navigation. The website will operate offline, allowing users to upload files and receive the processed output.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to upload PDF and DOCX files to the website.
  • As a User, I should be able to specify which financial documents (Financials, IRS Form 5500, IRS Form 5558, IRS Form 8955, SAR) are included in the package.
  • As a User, I should be able to see the uploaded documents converted into a structured PDF format.
  • As a User, I should be able to have the financial documents formatted in Times New Roman, font size 15.
  • As a User, I should be able to have a clickable Table of Contents converted into clickable bookmarks.
  • As a User, I should be able to have the Plan name updated according to the client package.
  • As a User, I should be able to have the Cover Letter attached as the first page of the final PDF with a bookmark.
  • As a User, I should be able to have the Financial section attached before the Eligibility section in the final PDF.
  • As a User, I should be able to have the IRS forms and SAR attached after the Top Heavy Report with bookmarks.
  • As a User, I should be able to have the Plan Highlights attached before the Cover Page in the final PDF.
  • As a User, I should be able to receive the final PDF with the name format “Administrative Report – Document Name – 2025” and set the zoom to 100% for all pages.

User Personas

  • User: An individual responsible for uploading and processing client packages into structured PDF documents.

Core User Flows

  1. User uploads PDF/DOCX files -> System processes files -> User specifies included documents -> System formats documents -> System generates final PDF with bookmarks -> User downloads final PDF.
  2. User updates Plan name -> System applies changes -> System generates final PDF -> User reviews and downloads final PDF.

Signature Design Concept

The homepage will feature an interactive "Document Carousel" where users can drag and drop files into a rotating 3D carousel. Each document will appear as a card that flips to reveal processing options. The carousel will be built using @react-three/fiber for 3D rendering and framer-motion for smooth animations. Users can click on a document card to expand it, showing detailed processing steps and options. This engaging interface will make the document processing experience intuitive and visually appealing.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will use a "parallax" interaction model, providing a layered depth effect as users scroll through the page. Decorative elements will move at different speeds, creating a dynamic and engaging visual experience. Internal pages will adopt a "static" model to ensure clarity and ease of use for document processing tasks.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system must operate offline and be accessible without an internet connection.
  • The final PDF must maintain a consistent zoom level of 100% across all pages.
  • The system should handle multiple document uploads efficiently.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database: Not specified (assumed not needed for offline processing)
  • Local orchestration: Docker, docker-compose

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The system will only process PDF and DOCX files.
  • The website will function offline, requiring no internet connectivity.
  • Users will manually specify which documents are included in the package.
