zen-analytics System Requirements Document

1. Introduction

The zen-analytics project aims to provide a comprehensive analytics SaaS platform designed to cater to various user needs. This document outlines the system requirements necessary to develop and deploy the zen-analytics platform effectively.

2. System Overview

zen-analytics is a SaaS platform intended to offer advanced analytics capabilities to users, enabling them to derive insights from data efficiently. The platform will support multiple user roles, each with specific functionalities tailored to their needs. The system will be designed to handle large datasets, provide real-time analytics, and ensure data security and privacy.

3. Functional Requirements as Story Points

  • As an Admin, I should be able to manage user accounts and permissions.
  • As a Data Analyst, I should be able to upload datasets for analysis.
  • As a Data Analyst, I should be able to create and customize dashboards.
  • As a User, I should be able to view analytics reports.
  • As a User, I should be able to export data in various formats.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to monitor system performance and usage statistics.
  • As a Guest, I should be able to view public dashboards and reports.

4. User Personas

  • Admin: Responsible for managing the platform, user accounts, and permissions.
  • Data Analyst: Uses the platform to analyze data, create dashboards, and generate reports.
  • User: Accesses the platform to view and export analytics reports.
  • Guest: Has limited access to view public dashboards and reports.

5. Core User Flows

  • Admin logs in -> manages user accounts -> sets permissions -> monitors system performance.
  • Data Analyst logs in -> uploads dataset -> creates dashboard -> generates report.
  • User logs in -> views analytics report -> exports data.
  • Guest accesses platform -> views public dashboard.

6. Visuals Colors and Theme

  • primary: #007BFF (a vibrant blue for brand identity)
  • primary_light: #66B2FF (a lighter tint for hover states)
  • secondary: #6C757D (a neutral grey for supporting elements)
  • accent: #28A745 (a green for CTAs and active states)
  • highlight: #FFC107 (a yellow for notifications and alerts)
  • bg: #F8F9FA (a light grey for the background)
  • surface: #FFFFFF (white for cards and panels)
  • text: #212529 (a dark grey for primary text)
  • text_muted: #6C757D (a softer grey for secondary text)
  • border: #DEE2E6 (a subtle grey for borders)

7. Signature Design Concept

The zen-analytics platform will feature an interactive "Data Universe" on the homepage. Users will be greeted with a dynamic galaxy map where each star represents a different feature or section of the platform. As users hover over a star, it will expand to reveal more information about that feature. Clicking a star will navigate the user to the respective section. The galaxy will subtly rotate, creating a sense of depth and exploration.

Landing Hero Motion Brief

The landing page will feature a continuously moving 2D composition using motion/react. The animation will depict data streams flowing into a central analytics engine, transforming into insightful visualizations that spread out like constellations. This loop will last 10 seconds, with interactive elements allowing users to pause and explore specific data points. The animation will be responsive, maintaining clarity on all devices.

8. Interaction Model & Motion Direction

  • Intended Interaction Model: Parallax
    • The landing page will use layered depth via scroll, with decorative elements translating at different speeds to create a visually rich first impression.
  • Internal Pages: Static
    • Internal pages will prioritize layout clarity with minimal motion, suitable for dashboards and data-heavy interfaces.

9. Non-Functional Requirements

  • The platform must ensure data security and privacy compliance with GDPR.
  • The system should support high availability and scalability to handle large datasets.
  • The platform must provide a responsive design for accessibility on various devices.

10. Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database RDBMS: MySQL, using Alembic for migrations
  • Database NoSQL: MongoDB
  • AI Models: GPT 5.4 for user-friendly responses
  • AI Tools: Litellm for LLM Routing, Langchain
  • Local Orchestration: Docker, docker-compose
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

11. Assumptions and Constraints

  • The platform will primarily serve users in the UK, adhering to local regulations and standards.
  • The system will assume users have basic knowledge of data analytics.
  • Constraints include budget limitations and the need for integration with existing systems.

12. Glossary

  • SaaS: Software as a Service
  • GDPR: General Data Protection Regulation
  • RDBMS: Relational Database Management System
  • AI: Artificial Intelligence
  • LLM: Large Language Model
