VOLTAIR — Idea & Vision Voltair is a peer-to-peer EV charging marketplace for India. Anyone with a home or private EV charger can list it and earn money renting it out; EV drivers can find, compare, and book the nearest available charger on a live map. What makes it different: pricing and demand aren't guesswork. Voltair uses real regional EV-density and charging-infrastructure data to classify areas as high or low demand "hotspots," price chargers dynamically based on that demand, and recommend the best charger to each driver based on distance, price, and demand together. Core experience: Live map showing both public and Voltair-listed private chargers Book a slot on a charger in seconds, with no double-booking Hosts list a charger in minutes and see an estimated monthly income before they even publish it Simple roles: driver, host, admin — with dashboards for each Vision: start in Delhi NCR, prove the model, then expand city by city — becoming the trusted way idle home EV chargers turn into income, and the fastest way EV drivers find a place to charge nearby.

Voltair System Requirements Document

1. Introduction

Voltair is a peer-to-peer EV charging marketplace designed specifically for India. It allows individuals with home or private EV chargers to list them and earn money by renting them out. EV drivers can find, compare, and book the nearest available charger using a live map. The project aims to revolutionize the way EV charging is accessed and monetized in urban areas, starting with Delhi NCR and expanding city by city.

2. System Overview

Voltair differentiates itself by using real regional EV-density and charging-infrastructure data to classify areas as high or low demand "hotspots." This data-driven approach allows for dynamic pricing of chargers based on demand and recommends the best charger to each driver based on distance, price, and demand.

Key Features:

  • Live map displaying both public and Voltair-listed private chargers.
  • Quick booking system to reserve a charging slot without double-booking.
  • Easy listing process for hosts, including an estimated monthly income preview.
  • Role-specific dashboards for drivers, hosts, and admins.

3. Functional Requirements as Story Points

  • As a Driver, I should be able to view a live map showing available chargers.
  • As a Driver, I should be able to book a charging slot quickly and without double-booking.
  • As a Host, I should be able to list my charger and see an estimated monthly income before publishing.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to manage the platform and oversee all listings and bookings.
  • As a System, I should integrate real regional EV-density and charging-infrastructure data to dynamically classify demand hotspots and price chargers accordingly.

4. User Personas

  • Driver: An EV owner looking for convenient and affordable charging options.
  • Host: An individual or business with an EV charger looking to earn income by renting it out.
  • Admin: A platform manager responsible for overseeing operations, ensuring smooth transactions, and maintaining system integrity.

5. Core User Flows

  • Driver Flow: Search for chargers on the map -> Select a charger -> Book a slot -> Receive confirmation.
  • Host Flow: Register as a host -> List a charger -> View estimated income -> Publish listing.
  • Admin Flow: Monitor platform activity -> Manage listings and bookings -> Resolve disputes.

7. Signature Design Concept

Interactive Charging Map Experience

The homepage features an interactive map that dynamically updates as users zoom in and out, showing available chargers as animated pins that pulse gently to indicate availability. When a user hovers over a pin, a small card pops up with details about the charger, including price, availability, and distance. Clicking on a pin expands the card into a full panel with booking options and host information. The map uses motion/react for smooth transitions and animations, creating an engaging and intuitive user experience.

Landing Hero Motion Brief

The landing hero showcases a seamless transition from a cityscape view to a detailed neighborhood map. As the scene zooms in, chargers appear as animated pins, and a highlighted path shows the optimal route to the nearest charger. This 10-second loop illustrates the ease of finding and booking a charger with Voltair. The animation uses motion/react for fluid motion and responsive design.

8. Interaction Model & Motion Direction

  • Interaction Model: Parallax
  • The landing page features layered depth via scroll, with decorative elements translating at different speeds to create a sense of depth. Real content stays in normal flow, enhancing the storytelling aspect of the platform.
  • Internal pages will use a static model to prioritize layout clarity and data presentation.

9. Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system must handle high traffic volumes, especially during peak hours.
  • Ensure data privacy and secure transactions for all users.
  • The platform should be scalable to accommodate future expansion into new cities.

10. Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, with Alembic for migrations
  • Local Orchestration: Docker, docker-compose
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

11. Assumptions and Constraints

  • The initial launch will focus on the Delhi NCR region.
  • The system will rely on accurate regional data for EV density and charging infrastructure.
  • Expansion to new cities will depend on the success and learnings from the initial launch.

12. Glossary

  • EV: Electric Vehicle
  • NCR: National Capital Region
  • Host: An individual or entity listing an EV charger on the platform
  • Driver: An EV owner using the platform to find charging stations
  • Admin: A platform manager responsible for overseeing operations

This document outlines the requirements and vision for the Voltair project, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the system's capabilities and goals.
