Patent Filing Chatbot

1. Introduction

The Patent Filing Chatbot is an AI-powered platform designed to assist children, students, and independent inventors in drafting patent-compliant documents and submitting them directly to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). By leveraging the capabilities of the open-source DeepSeq V4 Pro language model, the chatbot aims to simplify the complex patent filing process, making it accessible, educational, and engaging for younger audiences. The platform will provide end-to-end support, from drafting patent documents to submitting them on the USPTO platform, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience.

This document outlines the system requirements for the chatbot, focusing on its core functionalities, technical specifications, and design considerations.

2. System Overview

The Patent Filing Chatbot is a standalone application that uses the DeepSeq V4 Pro open-source language model to provide patent drafting and submission assistance. The system is designed to operate independently, without reliance on external proprietary APIs, ensuring cost efficiency and full control over the deployment. The chatbot will cater to a younger audience, offering an intuitive and interactive interface that simplifies the patent filing process while educating users about intellectual property.

Key features include:

  • Drafting legally compliant patent documents.
  • Providing educational guidance on patent terminology and processes.
  • Automating the submission of patents to the USPTO platform.
  • Ensuring compliance with USPTO requirements through prompts and disclaimers.

The platform will be deployed on a standalone infrastructure, optimized for the selected LLM, and will include features to track submission status and provide confirmation receipts.

3. Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to draft patent-compliant documents with the chatbot's assistance.
  • As a User, I should be able to receive educational guidance on patent terminology and processes.
  • As a User, I should be able to submit drafted patents directly to the USPTO platform through the chatbot.
  • As a User, I should receive a confirmation receipt after the patent is successfully submitted.
  • As a User, I should be able to track the status of my patent submission.
  • As a User, I should be prompted with disclaimers to review documents for compliance before submission.
  • As a User, I should be able to interact with the chatbot in a student-friendly and engaging manner.

4. User Personas

1. Student Inventor

  • Description: A child or student aged 10–18 with a creative idea they want to patent.
  • Goals: Learn about patents, draft a patent application, and file it with minimal complexity.
  • Needs: A simple, educational, and interactive interface that explains patent concepts in an engaging way.

2. Parent or Guardian

  • Description: A supportive adult helping their child navigate the patent filing process.
  • Goals: Assist their child in drafting and filing a patent while understanding the process themselves.
  • Needs: Clear instructions, educational resources, and a user-friendly interface.

3. Independent Inventor

  • Description: An individual with limited legal expertise who wants to patent their invention.
  • Goals: Draft and file a patent without hiring expensive legal services.
  • Needs: Comprehensive assistance with drafting and filing, along with compliance prompts.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

Color Palette

  • Primary: #4A90E2 (Bright Blue) – Represents trust, innovation, and clarity.
  • Primary Light: #A6C8F0 – A lighter tint for hover states and secondary UI elements.
  • Secondary: #F5A623 (Vibrant Orange) – Highlights key actions like CTAs and educational prompts.
  • Accent: #7ED321 (Lime Green) – Used for success states, confirmations, and progress indicators.
  • Highlight: #F8E71C (Bright Yellow) – Draws attention to important notifications and active states.
  • Background (bg): #F9FAFB – A soft, neutral white for the main page background.
  • Surface: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.9) – A semi-transparent white for cards and panels.
  • Text: #333333 – Dark gray for primary text and headings.
  • Text Muted: #888888 – Light gray for secondary text, labels, and timestamps.
  • Border: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1) – Subtle gray for dividing lines and input fields.

6. Signature Design Concept

"Interactive Patent Blueprint"

The homepage will resemble a dynamic blueprint of an invention, with interactive elements that guide users through the patent process. Key features include:

  • Interactive Nodes: Each step of the patent process (e.g., "Draft Patent," "Review Compliance," "Submit to USPTO") is represented as a clickable node on the blueprint. Hovering over a node reveals a brief description, while clicking opens the corresponding chatbot feature.
  • Dynamic Animations: The blueprint lines animate as users progress through the steps, creating a sense of accomplishment.
  • Educational Pop-Ups: Hovering over specific elements triggers pop-ups with fun facts or tips about patents, tailored for students.
  • 3D Effects: Using @react-three/fiber, the blueprint has a subtle 3D effect, making it visually engaging and modern.
  • Color Transitions: The blueprint's colors shift subtly as users interact, reinforcing progress and engagement.

7. Interaction Model & Motion Direction

Interaction Model

  • Landing Page: Parallax interaction with layered depth, where the blueprint elements move at different speeds as users scroll.
  • Chatbot Interface: Animated transitions for opening and closing chat windows, with spring physics for buttons and interactive elements.
  • Internal Pages: Static layout for clarity, with minimal motion to prioritize reading and interaction speed.

Motion Direction

  • Scroll-Triggered Animations: Key sections of the landing page reveal themselves as users scroll.
  • Hover Effects: Buttons and interactive elements expand slightly on hover, providing tactile feedback.
  • Micro-Interactions: Success states (e.g., patent submission confirmation) include celebratory animations like confetti bursts.

8. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Performance: The chatbot must respond to user inputs within 1 second.
  • Scalability: The system should support up to 10,000 concurrent users.
  • Reliability: Ensure 99.9% uptime for the chatbot and submission features.
  • Security: Encrypt all user data and communications using industry-standard protocols.
  • Compliance: Adhere to USPTO submission guidelines and include disclaimers for legal compliance.

9. Tech Stack

Frontend

  • React: For building the web interface.
  • @react-three/fiber: For 3D interactive elements on the landing page.

Backend

  • Python: For server-side logic.
  • FastAPI: For building APIs to handle chatbot interactions and USPTO submissions.

Database

  • MySQL: For storing user data and submission history.

AI Model
