Project Name: Velvet-Food

1. Introduction

Velvet-Food is a web-based food delivery application designed to provide users in India with a seamless and convenient way to browse menus, place orders, and track deliveries from multiple restaurants. This document outlines the system requirements for the Velvet-Food project, ensuring a robust, user-friendly, and scalable platform for food delivery services.

2. System Overview

Velvet-Food aims to connect users with a variety of restaurants, offering diverse cuisines and dishes. The system will allow users to browse restaurant menus, customize their orders, apply discounts, and track deliveries in real-time. Restaurant owners will have the ability to manage their menus, track orders, and view performance analytics. Admins will oversee the platform's operations, ensuring smooth functionality and resolving disputes.

The platform will cater to the Indian market, incorporating locale-specific features such as INR currency, Indian Standard Time (IST), and support for regional languages.

  • As a User, I should be able to browse a list of restaurants.
  • As a User, I should be able to search for restaurants by name, cuisine, or location.
  • As a User, I should be able to view detailed restaurant menus with item descriptions and prices.
  • As a User, I should be able to add items to my cart and customize them (e.g., spice level, add-ons).
  • As a User, I should be able to place an order and make payments securely.
  • As a User, I should be able to track my order in real-time.
  • As a User, I should be able to leave ratings and reviews for restaurants and dishes.

Restaurant Owners:

  • As a Restaurant Owner, I should be able to register my restaurant on the platform.
  • As a Restaurant Owner, I should be able to upload and manage my menu, including prices and availability.
  • As a Restaurant Owner, I should be able to view and manage incoming orders.
  • As a Restaurant Owner, I should be able to track sales and performance analytics.

Admins:

  • As an Admin, I should be able to manage user accounts (Users and Restaurant Owners).
  • As an Admin, I should be able to resolve disputes between users and restaurants.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to monitor platform performance and generate reports.

6. Signature Design Concept

Interactive Food Map Homepage

The Velvet-Food homepage will feature an interactive food map of the user's city. Users will see a dynamic, zoomable map with restaurant icons scattered across it. Each icon will represent a restaurant, and hovering over an icon will display a preview card with the restaurant's name, cuisine type, and average rating.

Key Features:

  • Animations: Smooth zoom-in and zoom-out transitions when interacting with the map.
  • Micro-interactions: Hovering over a restaurant icon will trigger a subtle bounce animation and display a preview card.
  • Dynamic Filters: Users can filter restaurants directly on the map by cuisine, rating, or distance.
  • Color Shifts: The map will transition from a daytime theme (light blue background) to a nighttime theme (dark navy background) based on the user's local time.

This unique design will make the homepage visually engaging and provide an intuitive way for users to explore restaurants.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Performance: The platform should handle up to 10,000 concurrent users with minimal latency.
  • Scalability: The system should support the addition of new restaurants and users without performance degradation.
  • Security: All user data and transactions must be encrypted using industry-standard protocols.
  • Localization: The platform should support multiple regional languages and display prices in INR.
  • Availability: The system should maintain 99.9% uptime.
