System Requirements Document (SRD)

Project Name: topaz-football

1. Introduction

The topaz-football project is a comprehensive football (soccer) career simulator designed to provide an immersive and realistic experience for users. Players will control a single footballer from youth to retirement, navigating a fully simulated real-world football ecosystem. This project combines the depth of Football Manager with the immersive gameplay of FIFA Career Mode.

The system is designed to be modular, scalable, and production-ready, ensuring a robust foundation for future enhancements.

2. System Overview

The topaz-football simulator will feature:

  • A real-world database of players, clubs, leagues, and competitions.
  • A player career system that tracks attributes, progression, and morale.
  • A match simulation engine that generates realistic match outcomes minute-by-minute.
  • A training system that impacts player development and fitness.
  • A transfer system with AI-driven market interactions.
  • A league simulation engine that tracks standings, stats, and fixtures.
  • An immersion system with news headlines, media reactions, and manager feedback.
  • A save/load system for persistent career states.

The system will be built using modern technologies, including Python for the backend, React for the frontend, and PostgreSQL for the database.

3. Functional Requirements

  • As a Player, I should be able to create and customize my footballer.
  • As a Player, I should be able to train my footballer to improve attributes.
  • As a Player, I should be able to participate in matches and view detailed match simulations.
  • As a Player, I should be able to negotiate contracts and transfer offers.
  • As a Player, I should be able to track my career stats, form, and morale.
  • As a Player, I should be able to view league standings, fixtures, and results.
  • As a Player, I should be able to save and load my career progress.

4. User Personas

4.1 Player

  • Description: The primary user who controls a single footballer throughout their career.
  • Goals: To develop their footballer, achieve career milestones, and experience the highs and lows of a professional football career.

4.2 Manager (AI)

  • Description: AI-controlled managers who manage teams, set tactics, and make decisions about squad selection and transfers.
  • Goals: To lead their teams to success while managing resources effectively.

4.3 Club (AI)

  • Description: AI-controlled entities that manage finances, transfers, and club operations.
  • Goals: To build competitive squads and achieve success in leagues and competitions.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

Color Palette

The topaz-football project will use a unique color palette inspired by the vibrant energy of football stadiums:

  • Background: #0B132B (Deep Navy Blue)
  • Surface: #1C2541 (Dark Blue)
  • Text: #F0F3F5 (Light Gray)
  • Accent: #FF6F61 (Vibrant Red)
  • Muted: #3A506B (Muted Blue)

6. Signature Design Concept

The topaz-football homepage will feature an interactive stadium experience.

  • Visuals: A 3D-rendered stadium that users can explore. Each section of the stadium represents a feature (e.g., locker room for training, pitch for matches, managerโ€™s office for transfers).
  • Animations: Smooth transitions as users navigate between sections. For example, clicking on the pitch zooms into a live match simulation.
  • Interactions: Hover effects and micro-interactions, such as crowd cheers when hovering over the stands.
  • Dynamic Elements: The stadium lighting changes based on the time of day (day/night cycle).

This concept will make the simulator feel alive and immersive from the moment users land on the homepage.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Performance: The system must handle up to 10,000 concurrent users.
  • Scalability: The architecture must support adding new leagues, players, and features without significant refactoring.
  • Localization: Support for multiple languages, starting with English and Arabic.
  • Security: Protect user data with encryption and secure authentication.
  • Availability: Ensure 99.9% uptime.

8. Tech Stack

Frontend

  • React for Web

Backend

  • Python
  • FastAPI

Database

  • PostgreSQL (RDBMS)

AI Tools

  • LangChain for AI-driven decision-making
  • LiteLLM for LLM routing

Orchestration

  • Docker for local development
  • Kubernetes for server-side orchestration

9. Assumptions and Constraints

  • Real-world player and club data may require synthetic generation to avoid licensing conflicts.
  • The system will initially focus on top European leagues before expanding globally.
  • The match simulation engine will prioritize realism over simplicity.
