Steady-Calculator

Introduction

The "Steady-Calculator" project aims to develop a simple, single-page calculator application with a clean and minimal design. This project is tailored for users in India, ensuring a straightforward and efficient user experience for basic arithmetic operations.

System Overview

The Steady-Calculator is designed to perform basic arithmetic calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The focus is on delivering a seamless user experience with a minimalistic interface that allows users to perform calculations quickly and without distractions.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to perform addition.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform subtraction.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform multiplication.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform division.

User Personas

  • User: The primary user persona is anyone needing quick access to basic arithmetic calculations. This includes students, professionals, and individuals managing everyday tasks.

Visuals Colors and Theme

  • primary: #2C3E50 (a deep slate blue for a professional look)
  • primary_light: #34495E (a lighter tint of the primary for hover states)
  • secondary: #E74C3C (a vibrant coral for emphasis and links)
  • accent: #F39C12 (a bright orange for call-to-action buttons)
  • highlight: #F1C40F (a warm yellow for notifications and active states)
  • bg: #ECF0F1 (a light grey for the background to ensure readability)
  • surface: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.9) (a soft white for card/panel backgrounds)
  • text: #2C3E50 (dark slate blue for primary text)
  • text_muted: #95A5A6 (a muted grey for secondary text)
  • border: rgba(44, 62, 80, 0.2) (a subtle border color for UI elements)

Signature Design Concept

The homepage of the Steady-Calculator will feature an interactive "floating calculator" concept. The calculator interface will appear to float above the background, casting a subtle shadow to create depth. Users can interact with the calculator by clicking and dragging it around the screen, providing a tactile experience. The buttons will have a smooth, spring-like animation using framer-motion, enhancing the interactive feel. The background will feature a gentle, animated gradient that shifts colors subtly as the user interacts with the calculator, creating a dynamic and engaging experience.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The intended interaction model for the Steady-Calculator's landing page is "animated." This model will include moderate scroll-triggered reveals and hover transitions, providing a polished and responsive user interface. The calculator will have spring physics on interactive elements to enhance user engagement and provide a modern touch to the minimalistic design.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application should load within 2 seconds on a standard broadband connection.
  • The interface must be responsive and function correctly on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • The calculator should handle up to 10-digit numbers without performance degradation.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: None required, as this is a client-side application
  • Database: None required
  • Local orchestration: Docker for development environment setup

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will be used primarily in India, so it should support the Indian numbering system.
  • The calculator will not include any scientific functions or advanced features beyond basic arithmetic.

Glossary

  • Arithmetic Operations: Basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Responsive Design: An approach to web design that makes web pages render well on a variety of devices and window or screen sizes.
  • Interactive Elements: UI components that respond to user actions, such as clicks or hovers, often with animations or transitions.
