retro-hola

Introduction

The "retro-hola" project is designed to create an in-depth educational course on the microeconomic concept of perfect competition. This course will focus on the decision-making process of whether a company should continue production or cease operations. It will include detailed theoretical explanations, exercises, graphs, and interactive elements to facilitate comprehensive learning.

System Overview

The system will provide a comprehensive learning platform for users to understand perfect competition. It will include theoretical content, practical exercises, interactive graphs, and tables to enhance the learning experience. The course will be structured to guide users from basic concepts to advanced applications, ensuring a thorough understanding of the subject.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to access detailed theoretical content on perfect competition.
  • As a User, I should be able to view and interact with graphs illustrating cost functions.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform mathematical derivations to find cost function minima.
  • As a User, I should be able to calculate and identify the intersection points of cost curves.
  • As a User, I should be able to understand the concept of the optimal production point.
  • As a User, I should be able to determine the shutdown point using cost analysis.
  • As a User, I should be able to complete exercises with step-by-step guidance.
  • As a User, I should be able to view and interact with tables summarizing cost data.

User Personas

  • Student: A learner seeking to understand the principles of perfect competition and apply them in practical scenarios.
  • Instructor: A teacher or facilitator who guides students through the course content and exercises.

Core User Flows

  • Student accesses course -> views theoretical content -> interacts with graphs -> completes exercises -> reviews results.
  • Instructor sets up course -> monitors student progress -> provides feedback on exercises.

Signature Design Concept

The homepage will feature an interactive chalkboard interface where users can draw and manipulate graphs directly. Using @react-three/fiber, the chalkboard will simulate a realistic classroom environment. Users can click and drag to adjust graph parameters, with animations showing real-time changes in cost curves. Hovering over elements will display tooltips with definitions and explanations, enhancing the learning experience.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

  • Interaction Model: Parallax
    • The landing page will use layered depth effects to create an immersive educational environment. As users scroll, different layers of educational content will move at varying speeds, simulating a dynamic classroom setting.
  • Internal Pages: Static
    • Focus on clarity and ease of reading for exercises and theoretical content.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system must be accessible and user-friendly, supporting various devices and screen sizes.
  • Performance should ensure smooth interaction with graphs and animations.
  • The platform should be secure, protecting user data and progress.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL
  • AI Tools: None specified
  • Local Orchestration: Docker
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The course will be delivered online, requiring stable internet access.
  • Users are assumed to have basic mathematical knowledge.
  • The system will not include AI capabilities unless specified later.

Glossary

  • Perfect Competition: A market structure characterized by a large number of small firms, a homogeneous product, and easy entry and exit.
  • Cost Function: A mathematical function representing the cost of production as a function of output.
  • Marginal Cost: The cost of producing one additional unit of a good.
  • Shutdown Point: The level of operations at which a company covers its variable costs but not its fixed costs.
