System Requirements Document (SRD)

Project Name: prism-slack

1. Introduction

Welcome to the System Requirements Document (SRD) for prism-slack, a project aimed at creating a robust, feature-rich Slack-like application tailored for collaboration and communication. This document outlines the system requirements necessary to design, develop, and deploy the application.

The goal of prism-slack is to provide users with seamless communication tools, including messaging, file sharing, and integrations, while ensuring scalability, security, and user-friendly design. This SRD has been updated to reflect the requirements for building a Slack application.

2. System Overview

prism-slack is a communication platform designed for teams and organizations to collaborate effectively. It will include features such as real-time messaging, channel-based discussions, file sharing, and integrations with third-party tools. The system will prioritize user experience, scalability, and security, ensuring it meets the needs of diverse user personas.

Key features include:

  • Real-time messaging with rich text formatting.
  • Channel-based organization for discussions.
  • File sharing and storage capabilities.
  • Integration with external tools like calendars, task managers, and cloud storage.
  • Notifications and alerts for updates.
  • Admin controls for managing users and permissions.

The system will be developed with a focus on the Indian market, considering locale-specific defaults such as IST timezone, INR currency for any billing-related features, and multilingual support for regional languages.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

Color Palette

The color palette for prism-slack is designed to evoke professionalism, collaboration, and energy:

  • Background: #F5F7FA (Soft Cloud White)
  • Surface: #E8EEF3 (Gentle Silver Blue)

6. Signature Design Concept

Interactive Workspace Dashboard

The homepage of prism-slack will feature an Interactive Workspace Dashboard that visually represents channels, messages, and integrations as dynamic, clickable elements.

Key Features:

  • 3D Channel Bubbles: Channels will appear as floating, interactive bubbles that expand when clicked, revealing recent messages and activity.
  • Live Activity Feed: A scrolling sidebar will show real-time updates, such as new messages, file uploads, and mentions.
  • Customizable Themes: Users can personalize their workspace with color gradients and patterns that subtly animate based on their activity level.
  • Micro-Interactions: Hovering over elements will trigger smooth transitions, such as glowing edges or subtle vibrations.
  • Animated Onboarding: New users will experience a guided walkthrough with animated tooltips and playful transitions to familiarize them with the platform.

This design concept ensures the first impression is engaging, memorable, and intuitive, setting prism-slack apart from competitors.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Scalability: The system must support up to 100,000 concurrent users without performance degradation.
  • Security: Implement end-to-end encryption for messages and files.
  • Localization: Support multiple languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali.
  • Availability: Ensure 99.9% uptime with robust failover mechanisms.
  • Performance: Messages should be delivered within 100ms latency.

8. Tech Stack

Frontend

  • React for Web
  • React Native for Mobile App

Backend

  • Python
  • FastAPI

  • Admins will have basic technical knowledge to configure settings.

Constraints

  • Compliance with Indian data protection laws (e.g., PDP Bill).
  • Limited initial budget for infrastructure scaling.
  • Integration with third-party tools must adhere to their API limits.

10. Glossary

  • Channel: A virtual space for team discussions on specific topics.
  • Direct Message (DM): Private communication between two users.
  • End-to-End Encryption: Security measure ensuring only intended recipients can read messages.
  • Integration: Connection with external tools or services.
  • Micro-Interactions: Small, subtle animations or effects that enhance user experience.
This updated SRD reflects the requirements for building **prism-slack**, incorporating the user's request and ensuring a comprehensive, creative, and technically sound foundation for development.
