nova-todo System Requirements Document

Introduction

The nova-todo project is designed to provide a streamlined, minimalistic to-do application that focuses on task management. This document outlines the system requirements for the nova-todo project, ensuring a clear understanding of the project's scope and objectives.

System Overview

The nova-todo application is a single-page web application aimed at providing users with a simple and efficient way to manage their tasks. The focus is on a minimal design that enhances user experience by eliminating unnecessary complexities. The application will be developed with a single-page architecture to ensure fast and seamless interactions.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to add new tasks.
  • As a User, I should be able to view a list of all tasks.
  • As a User, I should be able to mark tasks as completed.
  • As a User, I should be able to delete tasks.

User Personas

  • User: The primary user of the nova-todo application who will manage tasks.

Visuals Colors and Theme

The nova-todo project will feature a unique color palette to align with its minimalistic design:

  • primary: #3A86FF (a deep blue for the main brand color)
  • primary_light: #A8CFFF (a lighter tint of the primary color for hover states)
  • secondary: #FF006E (a vibrant pink for headlines and emphasis)
  • accent: #FB5607 (a bold orange for call-to-action buttons and active states)
  • highlight: #FFBE0B (a warm yellow for hover states and notifications)
  • bg: #F7F7F7 (a light grey for the page background)
  • surface: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.9) (a soft white for card backgrounds)
  • text: #333333 (a dark grey for primary text)
  • text_muted: #777777 (a medium grey for secondary text)
  • border: rgba(200, 200, 200, 0.5) (a subtle grey for borders)

Signature Design Concept

The nova-todo application will feature an interactive "Task Galaxy" homepage. Users will be greeted with a dynamic 3D galaxy map where each star represents a task. Users can click on a star to open a task card, drag to rotate the galaxy, and hover over stars to highlight task connections. This concept will be implemented using @react-three/fiber and @react-three/drei for 3D interactions, providing an engaging and memorable user experience.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page for nova-todo will utilize a "parallax" interaction model. This will create a layered depth effect as users scroll through the page, with decorative elements moving at different speeds to enhance the storytelling aspect. Internal pages will maintain a "static" interaction model to prioritize clarity and speed for task management.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application must load within 2 seconds on a standard broadband connection.
  • The user interface should be responsive and accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • The application should support the latest versions of major web browsers.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python with FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, using Alembic for migrations
  • Local Orchestration: Docker and docker-compose

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will be developed for users in India, considering local timezone and language preferences.
  • The design will prioritize minimalism and ease of use, avoiding complex features like task categorization or reminders.
