Introduction

The "misty-project" is a basic calculator application designed to perform standard arithmetic operations. This project aims to provide users with a simple and efficient tool for everyday calculations without any additional complex features.

System Overview

The misty-project is a straightforward calculator application that will be available on both web and mobile platforms. It will support basic arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The application will be designed with a user-friendly interface to ensure ease of use for all users.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to perform addition of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform subtraction of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform multiplication of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform division of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to clear the current calculation to start a new one.

User Personas

  • User: The primary user of the misty-project is anyone who needs to perform basic arithmetic calculations. This includes students, professionals, and everyday users who require a simple tool for quick calculations.

Visuals Colors and Theme

The color palette for the misty-project is designed to be clean and modern, enhancing the user experience with a visually appealing interface.

  • primary: #4A90E2 (a calm blue for the main interface)
  • primary_light: #A6C8FF (a lighter blue for hover states)
  • secondary: #F5A623 (a warm orange for emphasis and links)
  • accent: #50E3C2 (a vibrant teal for CTAs and active states)
  • highlight: #F8E71C (a bright yellow for notifications and highlights)
  • bg: #FFFFFF (a clean white for the background)
  • surface: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.9) (a subtle white for card backgrounds)
  • text: #333333 (a dark grey for primary text)
  • text_muted: #777777 (a softer grey for secondary text)
  • border: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1) (a light grey for borders)

Signature Design Concept

The misty-project will feature an interactive "floating calculator" design on the homepage. Users will see a 3D calculator model that they can rotate and zoom into using their mouse or touch gestures. This model will be created using @react-three/fiber and @react-three/drei for a seamless 3D experience. As users interact with the calculator, the buttons will animate with a subtle bounce effect using framer-motion, providing a tactile and engaging experience. The calculator's display will dynamically update with each input, creating a lively and responsive interface.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page for the misty-project will utilize a "parallax" interaction model. The calculator will appear to float over a softly animated background that shifts slightly as users scroll, creating a sense of depth. This approach will make the landing page visually engaging and provide a memorable first impression. Internal pages, such as settings or history, will adopt a "static" model to prioritize clarity and usability.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application should load within 2 seconds on a standard internet connection.
  • The interface should be responsive and accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • The application should handle up to 1,000 concurrent users without performance degradation.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web, React Native for mobile app
  • Backend: FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, using alembic for migrations
  • Local orchestration: Docker, docker-compose
  • Server-side orchestration: Kubernetes

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will be developed to support English as the primary language.
  • The application will not include advanced scientific calculator functions.
  • The application will be optimized for performance on modern web browsers and mobile devices.

Glossary

  • Arithmetic Operations: Basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Responsive Design: An approach to web design that makes web pages render well on a variety of devices and window or screen sizes.
  • Parallax: A scrolling technique used in web design where background images move slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth.
