magma-todo System Requirements Document

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to outline the system requirements for the "magma-todo" project, a single-page application designed to provide users with a minimalistic and efficient way to manage their tasks.

System Overview

The "magma-todo" application is a single-page web application focused on delivering a clean and minimalistic user interface for task management. The application will allow users to add, edit, and delete tasks seamlessly within a single page, ensuring a streamlined user experience without the need for navigation between multiple pages.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to add new tasks.
  • As a User, I should be able to edit existing tasks.
  • As a User, I should be able to delete tasks.
  • As a User, I should be able to view all tasks on a single page.

User Personas

  • User: The primary user of the application who will manage tasks. This persona values simplicity and efficiency in task management.

Visuals Colors and Theme

The "magma-todo" application will feature a unique color palette to enhance its minimalistic design:

  • primary: #4A90E2 (a calm blue for main elements)
  • primary_light: #A0C4FF (a lighter blue for hover states)
  • secondary: #FF6F61 (a coral hue for emphasis and links)
  • accent: #FFD700 (a vibrant gold for call-to-action buttons)
  • highlight: #FFA500 (a warm orange for active indicators)
  • bg: #F5F5F5 (a light grey for the background)
  • surface: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.9) (a soft white for cards/panels)
  • text: #333333 (a dark grey for primary text)
  • text_muted: #777777 (a muted grey for secondary text)
  • border: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1) (a subtle border color)

Signature Design Concept

The "magma-todo" application will feature an interactive "Task Canvas" on the homepage. This canvas will allow users to drag and drop tasks into different categories or priorities, creating a dynamic and engaging task management experience. The canvas will utilize framer-motion for smooth drag-and-drop animations and transitions. Users can click on tasks to expand them for more details or editing, and hover effects will highlight tasks with a subtle glow. This interactive approach will make task management feel intuitive and enjoyable.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page of the "magma-todo" application will employ an "animated" interaction model. This will include scroll-triggered reveals for task lists, hover transitions for task items, and spring physics for interactive elements like buttons and task cards. The focus will be on providing a polished and responsive user experience that enhances the minimalistic design.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application should load quickly and perform efficiently on all modern web browsers.
  • The user interface should be responsive and adapt to different screen sizes, ensuring usability on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • The application should maintain data integrity and ensure that user tasks are not lost during interactions.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python with FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, using alembic for migrations
  • Local orchestration: Docker and docker-compose

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will be developed with a focus on simplicity and minimalism, avoiding complex features that could detract from the user experience.
  • The application will be designed to operate as a single-page application, minimizing page reloads and navigation.
