System Requirements Document (SRD)

Project Name: lunar-aks

1. Introduction

The lunar-aks project aims to develop a highly available shopping cart application deployed on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). This application will provide customers with a streamlined shopping experience, focusing on core functionalities such as adding/removing items to the cart and completing the checkout process. By leveraging AKS, the project ensures scalability, resilience, and consistent performance during traffic spikes.

This document outlines the system requirements for the lunar-aks project, detailing functional and non-functional requirements, user personas, design concepts, and technical specifications.

2. System Overview

The lunar-aks application is designed to serve customers in Canada (CA) and beyond, providing a robust shopping cart experience with high availability and scalability. The system will utilize Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) to ensure seamless operation under varying load conditions.

Key features include:

  • Shopping cart functionality (add/remove items, view cart).
  • Checkout flow (order summary, payment initiation).
  • High availability and fault tolerance through AKS orchestration.

The application will prioritize simplicity, reliability, and performance, ensuring a smooth user experience for customers.

3. Functional Requirements

As story points:

  • As a Customer, I should be able to add items to my shopping cart.
  • As a Customer, I should be able to remove items from my shopping cart.
  • As a Customer, I should be able to view the contents of my shopping cart.
  • As a Customer, I should be able to proceed to checkout and view an order summary.
  • As a Customer, I should be able to initiate payment during checkout.

4. User Personas

1. Customer

  • Description: The primary user of the application. Customers interact with the shopping cart to add/remove items, view their cart, and complete the checkout process.
  • Goals:
    • Seamless shopping experience.
    • Quick and reliable checkout process.
  • Pain Points:
    • Slow or unresponsive systems during high traffic.
    • Complicated checkout flows.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

Color Palette:

The lunar-aks project will feature a modern and clean aesthetic, inspired by the "lunar" theme. The color palette reflects a celestial and futuristic vibe:

  • Background: #0D1B2A (Deep Space Blue)
  • Surface: #1B263B (Midnight Navy)
  • Text: #E0E1DD (Moonlight White)
  • Accent: #778DA9 (Lunar Gray)
  • Muted Tones: #415A77 (Starlight Slate)

6. Signature Design Concept

Interactive Lunar Landscape Homepage

The homepage of the lunar-aks application will feature an interactive lunar landscape. Upon landing, users will see a 3D-rendered moon surface with subtle animations of stars twinkling and meteors streaking across the sky.

Key interactive elements:

  • Floating Shopping Cart Icon: A glowing shopping cart icon hovers above the lunar surface, pulsating gently to draw attention.
  • Checkout Path: Users can "walk" a glowing path across the moon to reach the checkout section, with each step lighting up the ground beneath them.
  • Micro-interactions:
    • Hovering over items in the cart causes them to "float" slightly, mimicking zero-gravity.
    • Clicking checkout triggers a smooth transition animation where the moon morphs into a glowing payment gateway.
  • Color Shifts: The background subtly transitions between shades of blue and gray, simulating the phases of the moon.

This design concept ensures the application is visually captivating while maintaining usability and simplicity.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Availability: The system must maintain 99.99% uptime, leveraging AKS for fault tolerance and scalability.
  • Performance: The application should respond to user actions within 200ms under normal load conditions.
  • Scalability: The system must handle traffic spikes seamlessly, scaling horizontally as needed.
  • Security: All payment-related data must be encrypted using industry-standard protocols (e.g., TLS 1.3).
  • Localization: Default settings will cater to Canadian customers, including currency (CAD) and timezone (UTC-5).

8. Tech Stack

Frontend:

  • React for Web

Backend:

  • Python
  • FastAPI

Database:

  • MySQL (preferred for RDBMS)
  • Alembic for migrations

AI Models:

  • GPT 5.4 for user-friendly responses

AI Tools:

  • Langchain

Orchestration:

  • Docker
  • Kubernetes

9. Assumptions and Constraints

Assumptions:

  • The application will primarily serve customers in Canada but can scale globally.
  • Payment gateway integration is out of scope for the initial phase.

Constraints:

  • The system must operate within the Azure ecosystem, utilizing AKS for orchestration.
  • The initial scope excludes advanced features like wish lists, user accounts, and inventory management.

10. Glossary

  • AKS: Azure Kubernetes Service, a managed container orchestration service.
  • Checkout: The process of reviewing the order summary and initiating payment.
  • RDBMS: Relational Database Management System, used for structured data storage.
  • CAD: Canadian Dollar, the default currency for transactions.
  • TLS: Transport Layer Security, a protocol for encrypting data.

This document provides a comprehensive overview of the lunar-aks project, ensuring clarity and alignment for all stakeholders.
