lemon-list

Introduction

The "lemon-list" project is a simple to-do list application designed for personal use. The focus is on creating a clean and user-friendly interface that allows users to efficiently manage their tasks with basic functionalities such as adding and removing items from the list.

System Overview

The lemon-list application is a straightforward tool aimed at enhancing daily productivity by allowing users to maintain a list of tasks. The system will be designed to operate on both web and mobile platforms, ensuring accessibility and ease of use. Given its personal use case, the application will prioritize simplicity and efficiency without additional features like reminders or categories.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to add a new task to the list.
  • As a User, I should be able to remove a task from the list.
  • As a User, I should be able to view all tasks in a list format.

User Personas

  • User: The primary user of the lemon-list application who will manage their personal tasks using the app.

Signature Design Concept

The lemon-list application will feature an interactive "Task Garden" homepage. This concept transforms the user's task list into a virtual garden where each task is represented as a plant. Users can "plant" new tasks, "water" them to mark progress, and "harvest" them when completed. The garden will visually grow and change as tasks are added and completed, providing a dynamic and engaging experience.

  • Animation and Interaction: Using framer-motion for smooth transitions and animations, tasks will animate as they are added or removed, with plants growing or shrinking accordingly.
  • Visual Feedback: Hovering over a task will highlight it with a subtle glow, and clicking will provide options to edit or delete.
  • Library: @react-three/fiber will be used to create the 3D garden environment, offering a unique and immersive user experience.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

  • Intended Interaction Model: Parallax
    • The landing page will feature a layered depth effect, with the garden and tasks moving at different speeds as the user scrolls.
    • This model will create a visually rich first impression, enhancing the storytelling aspect of task management.
  • Internal Pages: Static
    • For task details and settings, a static layout will be used to prioritize clarity and ease of use.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application should load within 2 seconds on a standard internet connection.
  • The system must be responsive and accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • Data should be stored securely and be retrievable within 1 second.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web, React Native for mobile app
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, using alembic for migrations
  • Local Orchestration: Docker, docker-compose

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application is intended for personal use, so scalability for large user bases is not a priority.
  • The design will focus on simplicity and ease of use, without additional features like reminders or categories.
  • The application will support English language only.

Glossary

  • Task: An item on the to-do list that the user can add, remove, or mark as complete.
  • Parallax: A visual effect where background images move slower than foreground images, creating a sense of depth.
  • Static Layout: A design approach where elements are fixed and do not change position or size dynamically.
