keen-note System Requirements Document

Introduction

System Overview

The keen-note application is a simple, user-friendly tool that allows individuals to create, read, update, and delete notes. It is designed for personal use, ensuring that users can manage their notes without the complexity of additional features like sharing or organizing with folders and tags.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to create a new note.
  • As a User, I should be able to view a list of all my notes.
  • As a User, I should be able to update an existing note.
  • As a User, I should be able to delete a note.

User Personas

  • User: An individual looking for a simple, personal tool to manage their notes without additional organizational features.

Signature Design Concept

The keen-note application will feature an interactive "floating paper" design on the homepage. Users will see a virtual desk with scattered notes that gently float and sway as they hover over them. Clicking on a note will cause it to "flip" open, revealing the content inside. This concept will be built using framer-motion for smooth animations and spring physics, creating an engaging and memorable first impression.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will use a "parallax" interaction model, providing a layered depth effect as users scroll. The floating paper notes will move at different speeds, creating a dynamic and visually rich experience. Internal pages, such as the note list and editor, will maintain a "static" interaction model for clarity and ease of use.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application must load within 2 seconds on a standard broadband connection.
  • The user interface should be responsive and accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • Data integrity must be maintained during CRUD operations.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python with FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, using Alembic for migrations
  • Local Orchestration: Docker and docker-compose

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application is intended solely for personal use, with no sharing capabilities.
  • The design will prioritize simplicity and ease of use over advanced features.
  • The application will not require user authentication or account management.

Glossary

  • CRUD: Create, Read, Update, Delete
  • UI: User Interface
