System Requirements Document (SRD)

Project Name: happy-facade

1. Introduction

The happy-facade project is a design initiative aimed at creating a modern, minimalist facade for a three-floor commercial building located in Qatar. The design prioritizes clean lines, neutral tones, and functional accessibility while avoiding the use of brown tones. The building will feature a mix of retail and hospitality spaces, with a unique open-space coffee shop on the second floor to serve as a visual and functional highlight.

This document outlines the system requirements for the happy-facade project, ensuring alignment with the user’s vision and the project's goals.

2. System Overview

The happy-facade project focuses on delivering a sleek, minimalist design for a commercial building with the following layout:

  • Ground Floor:

    • Three shop entrances (doors).
    • One company entrance (door).
    • One stairwell entrance (door).
  • First Floor:

    • A coffee shop.
  • Second Floor:

    • An open-space coffee shop with no roof.

The facade will emphasize simplicity, symmetry, and modern aesthetics, incorporating neutral tones and avoiding brown. Glass, concrete, and subtle metallic accents will be used to achieve a timeless and professional look.

3. Functional Requirements

  • As a Designer, I should create a minimalist facade with clean lines and neutral tones.
  • As a Designer, I should avoid using brown tones in the design.
  • As a Designer, I should ensure the ground floor includes three shop doors, one company door, and one stair door.
  • As a Designer, I should design the first floor for a coffee shop.
  • As a Designer, I should design the second floor as an open-space coffee shop with no roof.
  • As a Designer, I should use materials like glass, concrete, and subtle metallic accents to enhance the modern aesthetic.

4. User Personas

4.1 Designer

  • Role: Responsible for creating the facade design.
  • Goals:
    • Deliver a minimalist, modern design.
    • Incorporate functional elements like doors and open spaces.
    • Avoid brown tones and maintain a neutral palette.

4.2 Building Owner

  • Role: Oversees the project and ensures the design aligns with business goals.
  • Goals:
    • Attract tenants and customers with a visually appealing facade.
    • Ensure the design is functional and accessible.

4.3 Tenants (Shops and Coffee Shops)

  • Role: Occupants of the building.
  • Goals:
    • Operate in a space that is inviting to customers.
    • Benefit from the modern and professional aesthetic of the facade.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

Color Palette

The following unique color palette has been designed for the happy-facade project:

  • Background: #F5F5F5 (Soft Light Grey)
  • Surface: #E0E0E0 (Muted Concrete Grey)
  • Text: #333333 (Charcoal Black)
  • Accent: #A8A8A8 (Subtle Metallic Silver)
  • Muted Tones: #D6D6D6 (Pale Grey)

This palette ensures a clean, modern, and minimalist aesthetic while avoiding brown tones.

6. Signature Design Concept

Floating Minimalist Panels with Integrated Lighting

The happy-facade will feature a bold yet minimalist design concept: floating panels. These panels, made of frosted glass and concrete, will appear to "hover" slightly off the building's surface, creating depth and visual interest.

Key Features:

  • Integrated LED Lighting: Subtle, warm white LED strips will be embedded along the edges of the panels, providing a soft glow at night and highlighting the building's clean lines.
  • Symmetrical Layout: The panels will be arranged symmetrically across the facade, aligning with the doors and windows to maintain balance.
  • Open-Space Highlight: The second-floor open coffee shop will feature frameless glass railings and a minimalist pergola structure to define the space without obstructing the view.

Interaction and Experience:

  • Dynamic Lighting Transitions: The LED lighting will gradually brighten and dim during the evening, creating a calming ambiance.
  • Material Contrast: The frosted glass and concrete panels will contrast subtly with the metallic accents, emphasizing the modern aesthetic.

This design concept ensures the happy-facade is both functional and visually striking, leaving a lasting impression on visitors and passersby.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • The facade design must comply with local building codes and regulations in Qatar.
  • Materials used must be durable and suitable for the local climate.
  • The design must be cost-effective and within the project budget.
  • The facade must be easy to maintain and clean.

8. Tech Stack

While this project is primarily a design initiative, the following technologies may be used for visualization and planning:

  • Frontend:

    • React (for interactive design previews).
  • Backend:

    • Python (for design automation scripts, if needed).
  • AI Tools:

    • Google Nano Banana (for generating facade imagery).
  • Local Orchestration:

    • Docker (for managing design tools and environments).

9. Assumptions and Constraints

Assumptions

  • The building dimensions and layout provided are accurate.
  • The design will be implemented using the specified materials (glass, concrete, metallic accents).
  • The project budget allows for the proposed design elements.

Constraints

  • The facade must avoid brown tones entirely.
  • The design must adhere to minimalist principles.
  • The open-space coffee shop on the second floor must remain roofless.

10. Glossary

  • Facade: The front-facing exterior of a building.
  • Minimalist Design: A design style characterized by simplicity, clean lines, and a focus on essential elements.
  • Frosted Glass: Glass with a translucent, matte finish.
  • Pergola: An open structure with a framework of beams, often used for shading.
  • Symmetry: Balanced and proportional arrangement of elements.
