grocery-store System Requirements Document

1. Introduction

The purpose of this document is to outline the system requirements for the "grocery-store" project, a micro SaaS application tailored specifically for grocery stores. This document will serve as a guide for the development and implementation of the system, ensuring that all user needs and technical specifications are met.

2. System Overview

The "grocery-store" project aims to provide a comprehensive software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution for grocery stores. This application will streamline operations, enhance customer experience, and improve inventory management. The system will be designed to cater to the specific needs of grocery stores, with features that support day-to-day operations and long-term business growth.

4. User Personas

  • Store Owner: Responsible for overseeing the entire store operations, including inventory, sales, and financial performance.
  • Store Manager: Manages day-to-day operations, staff, and customer service.
  • Customer: Purchases products from the store, either in-person or online.

5. Core User Flows

  • Customer browses products online -> adds items to cart -> completes purchase -> receives order confirmation.
  • Store Manager creates staff schedule -> assigns roles -> monitors customer service interactions -> resolves issues.

7. Signature Design Concept

The homepage of the grocery-store SaaS will feature an interactive "Product Carousel" where users can scroll through featured products. Each product card will flip to reveal detailed information and customer reviews when hovered over. The background will subtly change colors based on the time of day, providing a dynamic and engaging user experience. This concept will be implemented using motion/react for smooth animations and transitions.

Landing Hero Motion Brief

The landing page will showcase a "Fresh Produce Journey" animation. As users scroll, they will see fresh produce being harvested, transported, and displayed in the store. This animation will loop every 10 seconds, emphasizing the freshness and quality of the products. The animation will be created using CSS and motion/react, ensuring a seamless experience across devices.

8. Interaction Model & Motion Direction

  • Intended Interaction Model: Animated
  • The landing page will feature moderate scroll-triggered reveals and hover transitions, providing a polished and interactive experience for users. Each section will have a distinctive mechanic, such as kinetic typography or scroll-linked reveals, to maintain user engagement.

9. Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system must be scalable to accommodate multiple grocery stores.
  • The application should ensure data security and privacy for all users.
  • The system must be responsive and accessible on various devices, including desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

10. Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, with alembic for migrations
  • Local Orchestration: Docker, docker-compose
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

11. Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will primarily serve grocery stores in India, considering local currency (INR) and timezone (IST).
  • The system will integrate with existing payment gateways for online transactions.
  • Internet connectivity is assumed to be stable for both store operations and customer interactions.

12. Glossary

  • SaaS: Software as a Service
  • API: Application Programming Interface
  • IST: Indian Standard Time
  • INR: Indian Rupee

This document outlines the requirements and specifications for the "grocery-store" project, ensuring a clear understanding of the system's objectives and functionalities.
