Glacial-Page System Requirements Document

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to outline the system requirements for the "glacial-page" project, a single-page todo application designed for personal use. This document will detail the functional and non-functional requirements, user personas, visual design elements, and other critical aspects of the project.

System Overview

The "glacial-page" project is a single-page application aimed at providing users with a simple and efficient way to manage their tasks. The application will focus on usability and simplicity, allowing users to categorize tasks and set reminders. The application is intended for personal use, ensuring a streamlined and intuitive user experience.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to add new tasks to my todo list.
  • As a User, I should be able to categorize tasks for better organization.
  • As a User, I should be able to set reminders for tasks.
  • As a User, I should be able to mark tasks as completed.
  • As a User, I should be able to delete tasks from my list.

User Personas

  • User: The primary user of the application, who will manage personal tasks, categorize them, and set reminders.

Visuals Colors and Theme

The visual design of the "glacial-page" will feature a unique color palette to enhance the user experience:

  • primary: #1A73E8 (a deep blue for a calming effect)
  • primary_light: #E8F0FE (a lighter blue for hover states)
  • secondary: #FF6F61 (a coral hue for emphasis and links)
  • accent: #FFD700 (a vibrant gold for CTAs and active states)
  • highlight: #FFA500 (an orange for hover states and notifications)
  • bg: #F5F5F5 (a light gray for the background)
  • surface: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.9) (a soft white for cards/panels)
  • text: #333333 (a dark gray for primary text)
  • text_muted: #777777 (a medium gray for secondary text)

Signature Design Concept

The "glacial-page" will feature an interactive "Task Galaxy" concept on the homepage. Users will navigate through their tasks as if exploring a galaxy, where each task is represented as a star. Clicking on a star will open the task details, dragging will rotate the galaxy, and hovering will highlight connections between related tasks. This concept will be implemented using @react-three/fiber for 3D interactions and framer-motion for smooth animations. The design will create an engaging and memorable user experience, making task management visually appealing and interactive.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will utilize a "parallax" interaction model, providing a layered depth effect as users scroll through their tasks. Decorative elements will move at different speeds, creating a dynamic and immersive experience. Internal pages, such as task details and settings, will adopt a "static" model to prioritize clarity and readability.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application should load within 2 seconds on a standard broadband connection.
  • The application should be responsive and accessible on both desktop and mobile devices.
  • The application should support the latest versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: FastAPI
  • Database: MongoDB
  • AI Models: Not applicable
  • AI Tools: Not applicable
  • Local Orchestration: Docker, docker-compose
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application is intended for personal use and does not require multi-user collaboration features.
  • The application will not include advanced AI capabilities or integrations.
  • The application will be developed and tested in the US timezone and locale.

Glossary

  • Task Galaxy: A visual representation of tasks as stars in a galaxy, allowing users to interact with their tasks in a 3D space.
  • Parallax: An interaction model where background and foreground elements move at different speeds to create a sense of depth.
  • Static: A design approach prioritizing layout clarity with minimal motion, suitable for data-heavy pages.
