System Requirements Document (SRD)

1. Introduction

This document outlines the system requirements for developing a simple app with functionality similar to Uber. The app will allow users to book rides, track drivers, and manage payments seamlessly. The goal is to create a user-friendly platform that connects riders and drivers efficiently.

2. System Overview

The system will consist of a mobile application for riders and drivers, along with a backend server to manage data and operations. The app will provide features such as ride booking, real-time driver tracking, payment processing, and user account management. The system will prioritize simplicity, scalability, and reliability.

3. Functional Requirements as Story Points

  • As a Rider, I should be able to create an account and log in to the app.
  • As a Rider, I should be able to book a ride by entering my pickup and drop-off locations.
  • As a Rider, I should be able to track the driver in real-time on a map.
  • As a Rider, I should be able to view the estimated fare before confirming the ride.
  • As a Rider, I should be able to make payments through multiple payment methods (e.g., credit card, PayPal).
  • As a Rider, I should be able to rate and review the driver after the ride.
  • As a Driver, I should be able to create an account and log in to the app.
  • As a Driver, I should be able to accept or decline ride requests.
  • As a Driver, I should be able to view the rider's pickup and drop-off locations.
  • As a Driver, I should be able to navigate to the rider's location using integrated maps.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to manage user accounts (Riders and Drivers).
  • As an Admin, I should be able to monitor ride activity and generate reports.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to handle disputes between Riders and Drivers.

4. User Personas

Rider

  • A user who wants to book rides for transportation.
  • Needs a simple and intuitive interface to book rides, track drivers, and make payments.

Driver

  • A user who provides transportation services.
  • Requires functionality to accept ride requests, navigate to locations, and manage their earnings.

Admin

  • A user who oversees the system's operations.
  • Responsible for managing user accounts, monitoring activities, and resolving disputes.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

The app will use a modern and clean design with the following color scheme:

  • Primary Color: Blue (#007BFF) for buttons and key actions.
  • Secondary Color: White (#FFFFFF) for backgrounds and text areas.
  • Accent Color: Green (#28A745) for success messages and confirmations.
  • Error Color: Red (#DC3545) for error messages.
  • Neutral Color: Gray (#6C757D) for secondary text and inactive elements.

The theme will focus on simplicity and clarity, ensuring that users can navigate the app effortlessly.

6. Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system should be scalable to handle a growing number of users and ride requests.
  • The app should have a response time of less than 2 seconds for all major actions.
  • The system should ensure data security and privacy for all users.
  • The app should be compatible with both iOS and Android platforms.
  • The backend should support high availability and fault tolerance.

7. Tech Stack

Frontend

  • React Native for the mobile app.

Backend

  • Python with FastAPI for server-side logic.

Database RDBMS

  • MySQL with Alembic for migrations.

AI Models

  • GPT 5.2 for user-friendly responses (e.g., chat support or FAQs).

AI Tools

  • Langchain for integrating AI functionalities.

Local Orchestration

  • Docker and docker-compose for containerization.

Server-Side Orchestration

  • Kubernetes for managing server-side deployments.

8. Assumptions and Constraints

  • The app will initially target a single region or city for deployment.
  • The system will require internet connectivity for all major functionalities.
  • Payment processing will rely on third-party services (e.g., Stripe or PayPal).
  • The app will not include advanced features like ride-sharing or scheduling at launch.

9. Glossary

  • Rider: A user who books rides using the app.
  • Driver: A user who provides transportation services through the app.
  • Admin: A user responsible for managing the app's operations.
  • Ride Request: A booking made by a Rider for transportation.
  • Real-Time Tracking: The ability to view the driver's location on a map in real-time.
  • Payment Gateway: A third-party service used to process payments securely.
  • Fault Tolerance: The ability of the system to continue operating in the event of a failure.

This document provides a comprehensive overview of the requirements for developing a simple Uber-like app. It ensures clarity and alignment with the user's request while maintaining scalability and usability.
