System Requirements Document (SRD)

Project Name: earthy-applications

1. Introduction

The purpose of this System Requirements Document (SRD) is to define the functional, non-functional, and technical requirements for earthy-applications, a multi-tenant shopping cart platform designed to support multiple stores with customizable configurations and seamless integration with a wide range of payment gateways.

This document serves as a blueprint for the development and deployment of the application, ensuring high availability, scalability, and reliability. The project is tailored to meet the needs of businesses in Canada (CA) and beyond, with a focus on flexibility and user-centric design.

2. System Overview

earthy-applications is a multi-tenant e-commerce platform that allows multiple stores to operate independently while sharing a robust and scalable infrastructure. Each store can customize its products, categories, and configurations, ensuring a personalized experience for store owners and their customers.

Key features include:

  • Support for a wide range of payment gateways (e.g., PayPal, Stripe, etc.).
  • High availability to handle concurrent users across multiple stores.
  • Customizable themes and layouts for individual stores.
  • Secure and scalable architecture to support growth.

The system will leverage modern technologies such as React for the frontend, Python with FastAPI for the backend, and MySQL for relational database management.

3. Functional Requirements

  • As a Store Owner, I should be able to create and configure my store with unique branding, themes, and layouts.
  • As a Store Owner, I should be able to add, edit, and manage products and categories.
  • As a Store Owner, I should be able to integrate my store with multiple payment gateways (e.g., PayPal, Stripe, etc.).
  • As a Customer, I should be able to browse products and categories in a user-friendly interface.
  • As a Customer, I should be able to add products to a shopping cart and proceed to checkout.
  • As a Customer, I should be able to securely make payments using my preferred payment gateway.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to monitor and manage all stores on the platform.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to generate reports on platform usage and performance.

4. User Personas

4.1 Store Owner

  • Description: Entrepreneurs or businesses using the platform to run their online stores.
  • Goals: Customize their store, manage products, and process payments efficiently.
  • Pain Points: Need for flexibility, ease of use, and reliable payment processing.

4.2 Customer

  • Description: End-users purchasing products from the stores hosted on the platform.
  • Goals: Seamless shopping experience, secure payments, and quick navigation.
  • Pain Points: Slow checkout processes, limited payment options, and poor UI/UX.

4.3 Admin

  • Description: Platform administrators responsible for managing the system.
  • Goals: Ensure platform stability, monitor usage, and provide support to store owners.
  • Pain Points: Complex system management and lack of visibility into platform performance.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

Color Palette

  • Background: #F5F5F0 (Soft Beige)
  • Surface: #FFFFFF (Pure White)
  • Text: #333333 (Charcoal Gray)
  • Accent: #4CAF50 (Earthy Green)
  • Muted: #BDBDBD (Light Gray)

This palette reflects the "earthy" theme of the project, emphasizing natural tones and a clean, modern aesthetic.

6. Signature Design Concept

The earthy-applications homepage will feature an interactive 3D marketplace map.

Concept Details:

  • Visuals: A 3D-rendered globe with store locations represented as glowing pins. Users can rotate the globe to explore stores in different regions.
  • Interaction: Hovering over a pin reveals a store preview with its logo, tagline, and a "Visit Store" button. Clicking on a pin zooms into the store's location and transitions to its homepage.
  • Animations: Smooth globe rotation, glowing pin animations, and a ripple effect when a pin is clicked.
  • Color Shifts: The globe's background transitions from day to night based on the user's local time.
  • Micro-interactions: Subtle haptic feedback for mobile users when interacting with pins.

This design will create a memorable first impression, emphasizing the platform's global reach and modern capabilities.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Scalability: The system must support up to 10,000 concurrent users across multiple stores.
  • Availability: Ensure 99.9% uptime with failover mechanisms in place.
  • Security: Implement robust encryption for payment processing and user data.
  • Performance: Page load times must not exceed 2 seconds under normal load conditions.
  • Localization: Support multiple languages and currencies, starting with English and CAD.

8. Tech Stack

Frontend

  • React for Web

Backend

  • Python
  • FastAPI

Database

  • MySQL (with Alembic for migrations)

AI Models

  • GPT 5.4 for user-friendly responses
  • Claude 4.6 Opas for coding assistance

AI Tools

  • Langchain
  • Litellm for LLM Routing

Orchestration

  • Docker for local development
  • Kubernetes for server-side orchestration

9. Assumptions and Constraints

  • The platform will initially target businesses in Canada but will be designed for global scalability.
  • Payment gateway integrations will comply with PCI DSS standards.
  • Store owners will manage their own content and configurations.
  • The system will not include physical inventory management; this will be handled externally.
