System Requirements Document for crystal-1
Introduction
The project "crystal-1" aims to develop a custom reporting engine specifically designed for subscription businesses. This tool will address the inefficiencies faced by finance teams in generating revenue, margin, and cohort reports due to the limitations of existing billing platforms.
System Overview
The crystal-1 project will provide a micro SaaS solution that enables finance teams at SaaS and subscription businesses to efficiently compile reports. The solution will feature a drag-and-drop report builder, scheduled exports, and connectors for popular billing platforms like Stripe, Chargebee, and Recurly. The target users are finance managers and operations teams in companies with 10 to 200 employees.
Functional Requirements as Story Points
- As a Finance Manager, I should be able to use a drag-and-drop interface to build custom reports, so that I can tailor reports to my specific needs without technical assistance.
- As a Finance Manager, I should be able to schedule exports of reports, so that I can receive them automatically at regular intervals.
- As a Finance Manager, I should be able to connect the reporting engine to Stripe, Chargebee, and Recurly, so that I can easily import billing data from these platforms.
- As a Finance Manager, I should be able to generate revenue, margin, and cohort reports, so that I can analyze financial performance efficiently.

Signature Design Concept
The homepage of crystal-1 will feature an interactive financial dashboard that comes to life as users hover and click. The dashboard will simulate a real-time report-building process, with animated data blocks that users can drag and drop to create custom reports. This dynamic interaction will be powered by motion/react for smooth transitions and animations. The dashboard will also feature a live connection status indicator for Stripe, Chargebee, and Recurly integrations, enhancing user engagement and providing immediate feedback.
Landing Hero Motion Brief
The landing page will feature a continuous animation loop where data inputs (represented as colorful blocks) flow into a central report builder interface. As the blocks are arranged, the report builder transforms them into a polished report, showcasing the product's capability to streamline report generation. This animation will be created using motion/react and CSS for a seamless experience. The animation will pause on hover, allowing users to interact with individual data blocks, which will provide additional information about the report-building process.
Interaction Model & Motion Direction
- Interaction Model: Animated
- The landing page will feature moderate scroll-triggered reveals and hover transitions, providing a polished and engaging experience for users. The focus will be on smooth animations that enhance the storytelling of the product's capabilities.
