crimson-idea System Requirements Document

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to outline the system requirements for the "crimson-idea" project. This project involves the development of a basic web application that functions as a calculator, supporting standard arithmetic operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

System Overview

The "crimson-idea" project aims to create a simple and user-friendly web application that allows users to perform basic arithmetic calculations. The application will be accessible via a web browser and will provide a straightforward interface for users to input numbers and select operations.

Functional Requirements

  • As a User, I should be able to perform addition of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform subtraction of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform multiplication of two numbers.
  • As a User, I should be able to perform division of two numbers.

User Personas

  • User: An individual seeking to perform basic arithmetic calculations using the web application.

Core User Flows

  1. User opens the calculator web application.
  2. User inputs the first number.
  3. User selects the desired arithmetic operation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  4. User inputs the second number.
  5. User clicks the "Calculate" button.
  6. Application displays the result of the calculation.

Visuals Colors and Theme

  • primary: #2E86C1 (a calm blue for the main interface)
  • primary_light: #AED6F1 (a lighter blue for hover states)
  • secondary: #C0392B (a contrasting crimson for emphasis)
  • accent: #F39C12 (a vibrant orange for call-to-action buttons)
  • highlight: #F4D03F (a warm yellow for active indicators)
  • bg: #FDFEFE (a clean white background)
  • surface: rgba(46, 134, 193, 0.8) (a semi-transparent blue for panels)
  • text: #17202A (a dark color for primary text)
  • text_muted: #566573 (a softer gray for secondary text)
  • border: rgba(46, 134, 193, 0.2) (a subtle blue for borders)

Signature Design Concept

The homepage of the "crimson-idea" calculator will feature an interactive design where the calculator interface appears as a floating, translucent panel over a dynamic, softly animated background of shifting geometric shapes. These shapes will subtly change colors based on the time of day, providing a calming and engaging user experience. Users will interact with the calculator through smooth transitions and responsive button animations, enhancing the overall usability and aesthetic appeal. The frontend will utilize framer-motion for animations and transitions.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will employ a "parallax" interaction model, creating a sense of depth as users scroll. The calculator panel will remain fixed while the background elements move at different speeds, providing a visually rich first impression. Internal pages will maintain a "static" interaction model to ensure clarity and focus on the calculator's functionality.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application should load quickly and perform calculations with minimal latency.
  • The user interface should be responsive and accessible on various devices and screen sizes.
  • The application should handle invalid inputs gracefully, providing user-friendly error messages.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python with FastAPI
  • Database: Not applicable for this basic calculator application
  • Local orchestration: Docker, docker-compose

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will be developed for web browsers and will not require a mobile-specific version.
  • The application will not store any user data or calculation history.

Glossary

  • Arithmetic Operations: Basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Parallax: A design technique where background images move slower than foreground images, creating an illusion of depth.
  • Responsive Design: An approach to web design that makes web pages render well on a variety of devices and window or screen sizes.
