System Requirements Document (SRD) for cosmic-test

1. Introduction

The cosmic-test project is envisioned as a Slack-inspired application designed to revolutionize team collaboration. This document outlines the system requirements for the project, providing a comprehensive guide to its functional and non-functional aspects. The goal is to create a robust, user-friendly platform tailored to enhance communication, file sharing, and team productivity.

Given the user's context in India (IN), the system will incorporate locale-specific defaults such as IST (Indian Standard Time) for time zones and INR for any currency-related features. This SRD serves as the foundation for the design, development, and deployment of the cosmic-test application.

2. System Overview

The cosmic-test application will be a team collaboration tool, offering features such as real-time messaging, channels for focused discussions, file sharing, and integrations with third-party tools. It will be accessible via web and mobile platforms, ensuring seamless communication across devices. The system will prioritize scalability, security, and an intuitive user experience to cater to diverse teams and organizations.

Key objectives:

  • Facilitate real-time communication and collaboration.
  • Provide a centralized platform for team discussions and file sharing.
  • Support integrations with popular tools to enhance productivity.

3. Functional Requirements

The following story points outline the functional requirements for the cosmic-test project:

  • As a User, I should be able to send and receive real-time messages.
  • As a User, I should be able to create and join channels for specific topics or teams.
  • As a User, I should be able to share files within messages and channels.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to manage user roles and permissions.
  • As a User, I should be able to search for messages, files, and channels.
  • As a User, I should be able to integrate third-party tools like Google Drive or Trello.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to monitor and audit platform usage.
  • As a Guest, I should be able to access specific channels with limited permissions.

4. User Personas

The cosmic-test application will cater to the following user personas:

  1. Admin: Responsible for managing the platform, including user roles, permissions, and auditing.
  2. User: Regular team members who actively participate in messaging, file sharing, and collaboration.
  3. Guest: External users with limited access to specific channels or features.

5. Visuals Colors and Theme

The cosmic-test application will feature a unique and vibrant color palette to create a modern, professional, and approachable aesthetic. Below is the proposed color scheme:

  • Background: #F4F8FB (soft sky blue)
  • Surface: #FFFFFF (pure white)
  • Text: #2C3E50 (deep navy blue)
  • Accent: #FF6F61 (vivid coral red)
  • Muted: #BDC3C7 (light gray)

This palette is designed to provide a clean and visually appealing interface, with a focus on readability and user comfort.

6. Signature Design Concept

The cosmic-test homepage will feature an interactive galaxy map design, aligning with the project's name and theme. Upon landing on the homepage, users will see a dynamic, animated galaxy where each star represents a feature or section of the platform.

Key Features:

  • Interactive Navigation: Hovering over a star will display a tooltip with the feature's name (e.g., "Messaging," "Channels," "File Sharing").
  • Smooth Animations: Stars will gently pulse and rotate, creating a sense of depth and movement.
  • Color Transitions: The galaxy's background will subtly shift colors based on the time of day (e.g., warm tones in the morning, cool tones at night).
  • Micro-Interactions: Clicking on a star will zoom into that feature, transitioning the user to the corresponding section of the app.
  • Easter Egg: A hidden constellation will reveal a motivational quote when discovered.

This design concept ensures the cosmic-test platform leaves a lasting impression while providing an intuitive and engaging user experience.

7. Non-Functional Requirements

  • Scalability: The system must support up to 10,000 concurrent users without performance degradation.
  • Security: Implement end-to-end encryption for all messages and files.
  • Availability: Ensure 99.9% uptime with robust failover mechanisms.
  • Performance: Messages should be delivered within 1 second under normal load conditions.
  • Localization: Support Indian Standard Time (IST) and INR currency formats.
  • Accessibility: Adhere to WCAG 2.1 AA standards for accessibility.
