System Requirements Document for career-counseller-students

1. Introduction

Product. career-counseller-students is a university-project web platform whose core instrument is an AI Skill Gap Analyzer — a portable career counsellor for students. It helps a student identify the skills they still need for a desired career, without requiring a resume.

Product intent.

  • Give every student a career-counselling relationship that travels with them: a personal-assistant-type AI that answers their own set of issues and queries.
  • Produce a clear skill-gap picture between where the student is now and the career they want.
  • Provide career and life-path advice and guidance on the student's given set of issues or queries.
  • Surface the problems and common mistakes the student will meet on their journey, and how to avoid or tackle them efficiently.
  • Return opportunities and future options that fit the flexibility category the student gives, or one the AI determines itself.
  • Give valuable decisions to take at further journey points — point to point or as a relatable set — each carrying its own loopholes to avoid, and each capturable in very great detail on request so the student does not face unforeseen circumstances.
  • Act as a personal doubt solver across various fields, majorly focused on career-related doubts, and also resolving life and student problems that would hinder the student's current standing career path.
  • Serve students who do not have a resume at all, on equal footing with those who do.

Alignment. The product supports SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities.

Audience. University students pursuing a career path — including students with no resume, students with no settled direction, and students whose blockers are personal or academic rather than purely technical.

Character of the delivery. A modern, market-current website with cursor-centric fluid background animation, calm motion, and an eye-friendly default dark theme with an available bright mode.

2. System Overview

career-counseller-students is delivered as a single first-party web application with an application-owned identity layer and a protected analysis workspace behind it.

  • Anonymous surfaces. Landing is the public entry surface: it explains the AI Skill Gap Analyzer, its student audience, and its career-counselling purpose before any identity is established. Sign Up and Login are the two public identity-access surfaces.
  • Protected surfaces. Dashboard, Skill Gap Analyzer, AI Assistant, Journey Pitfalls, Opportunities, Decisions, Decision Details, and Settings require a signed-in student.
  • AI-driven surfaces. The analyzer, the assistant, the pitfalls view, the opportunities view, the decisions view, and the expanded decision definition all present AI-produced guidance; each keeps its inputs and results bound to the signed-in student.
  • Durable state. A student's desired career, skill-gap picture, guidance they saved to their path, and the decisions they have examined are retained so a returning student resumes them instead of starting again.

Actors.

  • Human (closed catalog): Student / Career Explorer and Career & Life Guidance Seeker.
  • Non-persona actors: the AI guidance service (system process producing skill-gap analysis, guidance, pitfalls, opportunities, decision briefs, and decision detail); the persistence layer that holds student-owned state; and the external model provider that executes AI generation on the application's behalf.

Ownership. All accepted human-facing responsibilities are owned by the first-party surfaces above. The model provider owns no student-facing journey and exposes no student destination; its work is orchestrated inside the application's own pages.

Narrow exclusions. The platform does not place students with employers, does not submit applications or resumes to third parties, does not act as an accredited certification body, does not guarantee employment or any career outcome, and does not offer a job-board or messaging product. Nothing in this document authorises those capabilities.

2a. Product Interpretation and Delivery Boundary

The whole product lives in one first-party web application. A visitor can read the purpose of the AI Skill Gap Analyzer on the Landing surface without any account. As soon as the student begins real career-counselling work — capturing a desired career and current skills, receiving a skill-gap result, conversing with the assistant, saving guidance, reading pitfalls, matching opportunities, or working through decisions — the work belongs to a specific student and must be resumable on a later visit. That continuity is what the application-owned identity layer exists for: self-service enrollment through Sign Up, and returning verification through Login.

Access is deliberately split rather than uniformly gated. The anonymous entry surfaces carry no protected student state; everything behind them is the student's own workspace. A protected destination never owns the act that establishes access to itself: Sign Up and Login are anonymous, and each protected page either shows the student's own state or asks for it.

Everything described in this document is current. No future-horizon capability, module, or destination is included in the current pages, requirements, or acceptance criteria. There is no third-party or provider-owned surface in the student's journey, and no headless delivery path.

Delivery boundary summary.

  • Application-owned identity: yes — self-service enrollment and returning verification are part of the current delivery.
  • Custom first-party UI: yes — for every accepted responsibility.
  • Provider-owned student surfaces: none.
  • External destinations students are sent to: none in the accepted scope.
  • Future horizon: none declared; see Section 11 for the boundary statement.
