1. Introduction

calm-latest is a news website that presents the latest news updates and gives readers a distinctive promise: every story can be read in one minute through a purpose-built news summary function. The summary is not an add-on to the reading experience — it is the product's headline service, presented as its own reading surface with a visible 60-second reading ruler.

The intent derived from the requirement thread is twofold:

• Latest news updates are the site's standing content obligation: current, freshly filed stories presented in a browsable index.
• The one-minute read is the site's unique feature: each item carries a concise summary that a person can finish inside a minute, with the reading time shown in tabular numerals so the promise is verifiable rather than asserted.

The audience is two-sided:

• News Reader — the general public arriving anonymously, who wants the gist of current news quickly and without an account.
• News Publisher / Editor — the person who authors the news updates and, critically, writes the concise summaries that make the one-minute read possible.

Emotionally and visually, calm-latest is calm authority, not breaking-news alarm: strict order, humanist type, hard rules, and no decorative noise around the reading task.

2. System Overview

calm-latest is a first-party, custom-UI web application with a backend that stores news items and their summaries and serves them to readers.

Current, accepted behavior

• An anonymously reachable Landing page introduces the site as the place for the latest news updates and for the one-minute summary reading feature, and presents the day's edition.
• Latest News carries the recurring reader work: browsing the current list of news updates.
• News Summary carries the unique feature: reading one news item's one-minute summary, with a 60-second reading ruler.
• Login is the identity access surface. It is anonymously reachable and owns both first-use identity establishment for a Publisher/Editor and returning verification.
• Publish News carries the Publisher/Editor's recurring work: creating and maintaining news items together with the concise summaries readers consume. It is role-restricted to a verified Publisher/Editor identity.

Actors

• Human personas: News Reader, News Publisher / Editor (both accepted from the planning contract and used exactly as named).
• Non-persona actor: the account/data service that stores news items, summaries, and Publisher/Editor identity, and that computes the one-minute reading time from summary length. It has no independent product goal.

Ownership

• News content is authored inside calm-latest by a verified Publisher/Editor. No external news feed, syndication provider, or third-party publisher surface is accepted by the source.
• Reader-side pages are anonymous; the product holds no durable reader-specific state.

Narrow exclusions (not accepted by the source)

• No reader accounts, sign-in, saved items, bookmarks, personalized feeds, or reading history.
• No comments, social sharing, reactions, or community features.
• No subscriptions, paywall, advertising system, or newsletter delivery.
• No full-length article reading surface: an item's reader-facing content is its headline, dateline, and its one-minute summary.
