amber-idea System Requirements Document

Introduction

The purpose of this document is to outline the system requirements for the "amber-idea" project. This project aims to build a modern Hospital Management System that supports various healthcare environments, helping hospitals manage patients, doctors, appointments, medical records, billing, and administrative operations.

System Overview

The "amber-idea" project is designed to be a comprehensive Hospital Management System that integrates seamlessly across various healthcare environments. It will provide modules for managing authentication, patient information, doctor schedules, appointments, medical records, billing, and notifications. The system will ensure efficient hospital operations through a user-friendly interface and robust backend support.

Functional Requirements

  • As an Admin, I should be able to manage user roles and permissions for different hospital settings.
  • As a Doctor, I should be able to update my availability and department assignments.
  • As a Receptionist, I should be able to book, reschedule, and cancel appointments.
  • As a Patient, I should be able to register, view my medical history, and manage appointments.
  • As a System, I should generate bills and track payments, including handling insurance claims.
  • As a User, I should receive notifications for appointment reminders and billing alerts.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to view and manage all system notifications.
  • As a User, I should be able to navigate through requirement details and diagrams with a dedicated view and back button.

User Personas

  • Admin: Manages system settings, user roles, and permissions.
  • Doctor: Manages patient consultations, availability, and department assignments.
  • Receptionist: Handles patient appointments and administrative tasks.
  • Patient: Manages personal health records and appointments.

Core User Flows

  • Patient Registration Flow: Patient registers -> Fills personal details -> Submits registration -> Receives confirmation.
  • Appointment Booking Flow: Patient selects doctor -> Chooses date/time -> Books appointment -> Receives confirmation.
  • Doctor Consultation Flow: Doctor reviews patient history -> Conducts consultation -> Updates medical records.
  • Billing & Payment Flow: System generates bill -> Patient reviews -> Makes payment -> Receives receipt.

Signature Design Concept

The homepage of the "amber-idea" project will feature an interactive 3D hospital campus map using @react-three/fiber and @react-three/drei. Users can navigate through different departments by clicking on buildings, which will animate and expand to reveal detailed information about services, doctors, and available appointments. The map will be complemented by ambient background music and subtle animations that respond to user interactions, creating an engaging and immersive experience.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will use a "parallax" interaction model, providing a layered depth effect as users scroll. Decorative elements like floating medical icons and animated patient pathways will move at different speeds, creating a dynamic storytelling experience. Internal pages will adopt a "static" model for clarity and ease of use, focusing on efficient data entry and retrieval.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system must support multiple languages to cater to diverse hospital settings.
  • The system should ensure data security and patient confidentiality.
  • The system must be scalable to accommodate growing hospital networks.
  • The system should provide high availability and reliability.

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python, FastAPI
  • Database: MySQL or MariaDB, using alembic for migrations
  • AI Models: Not specified
  • AI Tools: Not specified
  • Local Orchestration: Docker, docker-compose
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The system will be deployed in a cloud environment to ensure scalability.
  • The system will comply with local healthcare regulations and standards.
  • The system will integrate with existing hospital IT infrastructure.
