1. Introduction

The Lemon-Portfolio project is a web-based Minimum Viable Product (MVP) application designed to empower users in the US to track their stock portfolios, view performance metrics, and interact with a basic AI assistant for financial Q&A. The platform prioritizes simplicity, usability, and speed to market, with advanced features planned for future iterations.

This document outlines the system requirements for the Lemon-Portfolio MVP, including functional and non-functional requirements, user personas, design concepts, and technical specifications.

2. System Overview

The Lemon-Portfolio MVP will provide users with the ability to:

• Track their stock portfolio using near real-time market data.
• View portfolio performance, including total value, profit and loss (P&L), and basic charts.
• Perform limited stock comparisons.
• Interact with a basic AI assistant for financial Q&A.

The system will feature a clean, responsive dashboard UI, API-driven backend, and secure authentication mechanisms. It will integrate with a single market data API (e.g., Financial Modeling Prep) to fetch stock prices and basic company information.

The MVP will focus on delivering a functional, scalable platform while avoiding over-engineering or unnecessary complexity.

3. Functional Requirements

User Module

• As a User, I should be able to register and log in using my email.
• As a User, I should be able to reset my password if I forget it.
• As a User, I should have my session managed securely after logging in.

Portfolio Management

• As a User, I should be able to create and manage a single portfolio.
• As a User, I should be able to add, edit, and remove stocks in my portfolio.
• As a User, I should be able to search for stocks using an API.
• As a User, I should be able to input the quantity and purchase price of stocks.
• As a User, I should be able to view a summary of my portfolio, including:
  • Total value.
  • Profit and loss (₹ and %).
  • A basic performance chart showing historical trends.

Market Data Integration

• As a User, I should be able to view near real-time stock prices and basic company information.
• As a User, I should see data refreshed every 30–60 seconds.

Stock Details

• As a User, I should be able to view individual stock details, including:
  • Current price.
  • Percentage change.
  • Basic metrics (e.g., P/E ratio, market cap).
  • A simple price trend chart.

Stock Comparison

• As a User, I should be able to compare up to 2–3 stocks based on:
  • Price.
  • Percentage change.
  • Basic ratios (e.g., P/E ratio).

Risk Indicator

• As a User, I should be able to view a basic risk level (Low/Medium/High) based on simple diversification and volatility logic.

AI Assistant

• As a User, I should be able to interact with a chat-based AI assistant for:

Dashboard UI

• As a User, I should see a clean, modern dashboard with:

The homepage will feature an interactive lemon tree as the central visual metaphor for portfolio growth.

  • Each stock is represented as a lemon on the tree, with size and color indicating performance (e.g., green for gains, red for losses).
  • Hovering over a lemon reveals stock details in a tooltip.
  • The background subtly shifts from dawn to dusk based on the user’s local time, creating a sense of time progression.

• Animations:

  • Smooth transitions as lemons grow or shrink based on portfolio changes.
  • A gentle breeze animation moves the tree leaves, adding a sense of life.
