Smart Resume-Analyzer

Introduction

The Smart Resume-Analyzer is a project designed to assist students in evaluating their resumes against predefined job roles or custom job descriptions. By leveraging AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP), the system identifies skill gaps and provides learning recommendations to enhance employability. This project is particularly useful for students preparing for job applications and aims to make the resume evaluation process more efficient and insightful.

System Overview

The Smart Resume-Analyzer is a web-based application that allows students to upload their resumes in PDF or DOCX format. The system analyzes the resume content, identifies skills, and compares them with the skills required for selected job roles. It supports both predefined roles and custom job descriptions, providing flexibility and depth in analysis. The application is designed to be user-friendly and can be accessed by both students and administrators, offering features such as resume analysis history and skill tracking.

Functional Requirements

  • As a Student, I should be able to upload my resume in PDF or DOCX format for analysis.
  • As a Student, I should be able to select a predefined job role for skill comparison.
  • As a Student, I should be able to input a custom job description for skill comparison.
  • As a Student, I should receive feedback on missing skills and learning recommendations.
  • As a Student, I should be able to view my past resume analysis history.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to log in to a dashboard to view overall college statistics.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to see which students are eligible for specific roles.
  • As an Admin, I should be able to add or update the required skills for new job profiles.

User Personas

  • Student: A user who uploads resumes for analysis and receives feedback on skill gaps.
  • Admin: A user who manages the system, views statistics, and updates job role requirements.

Core User Flows

  • Student Flow:

    • Student logs in -> uploads resume -> selects job role or inputs job description -> receives skill analysis and recommendations -> views analysis history.
  • Admin Flow:

    • Admin logs in -> accesses dashboard -> views college statistics -> updates job role requirements.

Signature Design Concept

The homepage of the Smart Resume-Analyzer will feature an interactive "Skill Galaxy" concept. Users will see a dynamic, 3D galaxy where each star represents a skill. Students can click on stars to view skill details and see connections to job roles. The galaxy will rotate and zoom as users navigate, providing an engaging and educational experience. This will be implemented using @react-three/fiber and @react-three/drei for 3D interactions, with gsap for smooth animations and transitions.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will utilize a "parallax" interaction model, creating a layered depth effect as users scroll. This will enhance the storytelling aspect of the application, making the first impression visually rich and engaging. Internal pages, such as dashboards and analysis results, will adopt a "static" interaction model for clarity and ease of reading.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system should support high concurrency to handle multiple student uploads simultaneously.
  • The application must ensure data privacy and secure access control for student and admin accounts.
  • The system should provide fast and accurate resume analysis results.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap
  • Backend: Python, Flask
  • Database: SQLite
  • Libraries: pdfplumber, nltk

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The system assumes that resumes are uploaded in either PDF or DOCX format.
  • The application is designed to be a mini-project with a focus on student usability and admin management.
  • The system is constrained by the capabilities of the chosen technology stack, particularly in terms of NLP processing with nltk.

Glossary
