DC resistance of a cable conductor per unit length, dependent on conductor material, cross-sectional area, and operating temperature. LT XLPE cables use stranded aluminium or copper conductors; values are sourced from the Polycab catalog.
R_20 = resistance at 20°C (Ω/km) | α = temperature coefficient | T = operating temperature (°C)
AC inductive reactance of the cable, arising from the magnetic field generated by current flow. Depends on conductor spacing, cable geometry, and frequency (50 Hz standard in India). Values are fetched directly from the Polycab LT XLPE data tables.
f = system frequency (50 Hz) | L = inductance per unit length (H/km)
A multiplier (0 < DF ≤ 1.0) applied to the cable's rated current capacity to account for elevated ambient temperature, grouping of cables in trenches or conduits, and burial depth. Combined derating ensures safe continuous operation without insulation degradation.

The reduction in voltage along the cable length due to conductor impedance. For LT systems, IS 732 recommends a maximum of 5% voltage drop from the supply point to the farthest load. Excessive drop causes motor overheating, reduced equipment efficiency, and nuisance tripping.
