1. Introduction

This document outlines the system requirements for the modernization of Medical Gas Services' (MGS) web presence. The project involves implementing a Shopify-based B2B e-commerce platform, a professional redesign of the MGS website, a guided product configurator, and integration with MGS's existing inventory system.

2. System Overview

The new platform will enable MGS customers to browse the full catalog, configure complex built-to-order products, and complete purchases with confidence. The system will integrate with MGS's existing inventory system to ensure accurate order processing without requiring a back-office rebuild.

3. Functional Requirements

Shopify Storefront

• As a customer, I want to browse a professionally redesigned, responsive storefront that reflects the MGS brand.
• As a customer, I want to navigate through homepage, collection/category pages, and product page templates.
• As a customer, I want to use site navigation and information architecture to find products easily.
• As a customer, I want to search for products using part numbers and technical attributes.
• As a customer, I want the website to be fully responsive across devices.

Product Catalog & Merchandising

• As a customer, I want to view the existing ~1,100-item browsable catalog as a first-class shopping experience.
• As a customer, I want to see product detail pages with specifications, fitment/compatibility, quantity, and related items.
• As a customer, I want to filter and sort products by gas service, size, connection type, and brand.
• As a customer, I want to see cross-sell hooks for related products.

Product Configurator

• As a customer, I want to configure complex, built-to-order medical-gas products without manual sales assistance.
• As a customer, I want the configurator to validate my selections against business rules in real time.
• As a customer, I want the configurator to resolve my selections to the correct, existing SKU.
• As a customer, I want to request a quote for configurations outside the standard catalog.
• As a customer, I want to make sequenced option selections, including positional logic where valve size and gas are paired per position.

Shopping Cart & Checkout

• As a customer, I want to add resolved configurations to the cart and update quantities.
• As a customer, I want to remove items from the cart if needed.
• As a customer, I want to see grouped cart displays for multi-item configurations.
• As a customer, I want to complete the checkout process using native Shopify checkout.

Order Hand-off

• As a customer, I want every completed order to carry the exact, correct SKU on its order line.

Customer Account Portal

• As a repeat B2B customer, I want to log in and register for an account.

• B2B Customer: A business representative who purchases medical-gas pipeline equipment for their organization.

1. Customer visits the MGS Shopify storefront.

• The system must be scalable to handle a large number of SKUs and configurations.
• The platform must ensure data security and privacy for customer information.

11. Assumptions and Constraints

• MGS will provide administrative access to the Shopify store.
• The product catalog is already built and loaded in Shopify.
• MGS will provide SKU-generation rules and product/SKU exports for validation.

• SKU: Stock Keeping Unit, a unique identifier for each product.
