What BTUs are and why sizing matters
Straight answers about how Cobalt-Bot calculates, saves, and shares your HVAC data.
Cobalt-Bot's engine cross-references room dimensions, insulation quality, window exposure, ceiling height, and regional climate data using an ACCA Manual J-inspired methodology. Basic Mode gets you a solid planning-range estimate for a single room, while Advanced and Contractor Mode layer in duct losses, occupancy load, and equipment efficiency curves for an install-ready figure.
Basic Mode asks for room size and a couple of quick details, ideal for a fast homeowner estimate. Advanced Mode unlocks per-room inputs, construction materials, and window and door counts for builders sizing an entire structure. Contractor Mode adds duct static pressure, equipment matching, and multi-zone load balancing built for licensed HVAC professionals producing quotes.
Cobalt-Bot flags both scenarios automatically. An oversized system short-cycles, wastes energy, and struggles with humidity control. An undersized system runs constantly and never quite reaches your target temperature. Every result includes a warning banner showing the percentage over or under the recommended capacity, plus efficiency tips to correct it before you buy equipment.
Licensed HVAC and plumbing professionals can apply through the Contractor Form with a license number, insurance documentation, and service area. Our team typically reviews submissions within 2 business days. Once approved, you gain access to Contractor Mode plus qualified leads generated from homeowner calculations in your region.
Yes. Once logged in, every calculation is saved to your Project History automatically, including inputs, BTU results, and any efficiency warnings. Property managers handling multiple units can filter history by address, date, or system type to compare results across a portfolio.
The entire platform, including the interactive calculators and dashboards, is built responsive-first. All inputs, sliders, and results panels reflow for touch screens down to small phones, so you can size a system on-site with a tablet instead of carrying a laptop to the job.
Your account data and saved calculations are tied to your login and are never shared publicly. Contractor leads generated from your submissions are only shared with contractors you explicitly request a quote from through the Contractor Form workflow.
After any calculation, your Results page includes a "Request a Quote" action that forwards your BTU report to a verified contractor near you via the Contractor Form. They receive your full spec sheet so the first conversation starts with real numbers instead of a blind estimate.
