Smart Resume Analyzer & Skill Gap Identifier

Introduction

The "Smart Resume Analyzer & Skill Gap Identifier" project aims to provide a platform where students can upload their resumes in PDF or DOCX format. The system will analyze the resumes to identify skills and compare them with the skills required for specific job roles such as Java Developer, Data Analyst, Python Developer, etc. It will then suggest missing skills and provide learning recommendations. This project is designed to be a practical tool that leverages AI to assist students in enhancing their employability.

System Overview

The system will consist of a web-based interface where users can upload their resumes. The backend will process the uploaded documents, extract relevant skills, and compare them against a database of job role requirements. The system will then generate a report indicating the user's eligibility for the selected job role and suggest areas for improvement.

Functional Requirements

  • As a Student, I should be able to upload my resume in PDF or DOCX format.
  • As a Student, I should be able to select a job role to compare my skills against.
  • As a Student, I should receive a report indicating my eligibility for the selected job role.
  • As a Student, I should receive recommendations for skills I need to develop.
  • As a Developer, I should be able to update the database of job role requirements.

User Personas

  • Student: The primary user who uploads resumes and receives skill analysis and recommendations.
  • Developer: The technical user responsible for maintaining and updating the system's database and functionalities.

Core User Flows

  • Student uploads resume -> selects job role -> system analyzes resume -> system compares skills -> system generates eligibility report -> system provides skill recommendations.
  • Developer updates job role requirements database -> system reflects updated requirements in analysis.

Signature Design Concept

The homepage will feature an interactive "Skill Galaxy" where each star represents a skill. Users can click on a star to see details about the skill, including its relevance to different job roles. The galaxy will be a 3D interactive model using @react-three/fiber and @react-three/drei, allowing users to navigate through the skill universe. Hovering over stars will highlight connections to related skills, and clicking will provide learning resources and job role matches.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

The landing page will utilize a "parallax" interaction model, creating a layered depth effect as users scroll through the page. The Skill Galaxy will be the focal point, with smooth transitions and animations triggered by user interactions. Internal pages such as the resume upload and report generation will be "static" to ensure clarity and ease of use.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The system should process resume uploads and generate reports within 30 seconds to ensure a fast user experience.
  • The system should support concurrent users without performance degradation.
  • The system should ensure data privacy and secure handling of user-uploaded resumes.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: HTML, CSS, Bootstrap
  • Backend: Python, Flask
  • Database: SQLite
  • Libraries: Flask, pdfplumber, nltk

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The system assumes that resumes are formatted in a way that allows for accurate skill extraction.
  • The system is constrained to using the specified technology stack for development.
  • The system must be deployable on a standard web server environment.

Glossary
