Meta Emulator

Introduction

The Meta Emulator project aims to transform an Android phone into a Meta Quest 3 VR experience. This application will provide users with a virtual reality environment that includes access to the phone's camera and hand tracking capabilities, allowing for gesture-based interactions.

System Overview

The Meta Emulator will enable users to experience VR content on their Android devices, simulating the functionalities of Meta Quest 3. Key features include camera access for augmented reality experiences, hand tracking for gesture control, and a customizable VR environment with space themes and weapon elements.

Functional Requirements as Story Points

  • As a user, I want to transform my Android phone into a Meta Quest 3 VR device to experience virtual reality.
  • As a user, I want access to the phone's camera to integrate real-world visuals into the VR environment.
  • As a user, I want hand tracking capabilities to interact with the VR environment using gestures.
  • As a user, I want the hand tracking to display white hands for better visibility in the VR environment.
  • As a user, I want to have a space-themed environment to enhance the VR experience.
  • As a user, I want to include weapon elements in the VR games for an engaging experience.
  • As a user, I want a gesture guide included in the APK to understand what each gesture signifies.

User Personas

  • Primary User: An individual interested in experiencing VR using their Android phone, with a preference for space-themed environments and interactive elements like weapons.

Core User Flows

  1. User launches the Meta Emulator app on their Android phone.
  2. User selects the space-themed environment.
  3. User accesses the camera for augmented reality integration.
  4. User uses hand gestures to navigate and interact with the VR environment.
  5. User engages with weapon elements within the VR games.
  6. User refers to the gesture guide for understanding gesture controls.

Signature Design Concept

The Meta Emulator's landing page will feature an interactive space environment where users can navigate through a galaxy. Using hand gestures, users can interact with planets and stars, each representing different VR experiences or games. The space theme will be enhanced with dynamic lighting effects and particle animations to simulate a cosmic atmosphere. The homepage will include a gesture-controlled spaceship that users can pilot through the galaxy, with each gesture unlocking new areas or features. This interactive experience will be built using motion/react for smooth animations and transitions.

Landing Hero Motion Brief

The landing hero will depict a cosmic scene where a user's hand gestures control a spaceship navigating through a starry sky. As the user performs gestures, the spaceship will dodge asteroids, collect power-ups, and unlock new galaxies. The animation will loop every 10 seconds, with interactive elements like shooting stars and glowing planets. The reduced-motion state will simplify animations for accessibility, maintaining the core interactive experience.

Interaction Model & Motion Direction

  • Intended Interaction Model: Animated
    • The landing page will feature moderate scroll-triggered reveals and hover transitions, with spring physics on interactive elements to enhance the VR experience.
  • Internal Pages: Static
    • For settings and configuration pages, a minimal motion approach will be used to prioritize clarity and usability.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • The application must run smoothly on Android devices with minimal latency.
  • Hand tracking must be accurate and responsive to ensure seamless interaction.
  • The VR environment should be immersive, with high-quality graphics and sound.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React for Web
  • Backend: Python with FastAPI
  • Database: MongoDB for storing user preferences and game data
  • AI Models: Google Nano banana for image generation
  • Local Orchestration: Docker
  • Server-side Orchestration: Kubernetes

Assumptions and Constraints

  • The application will initially be used by a single user, with potential for expansion.
  • The VR experience is designed for Android devices with sufficient processing power and camera capabilities.
  • Gesture recognition will be limited to predefined gestures outlined in the gesture guide.

Glossary

  • VR (Virtual Reality): A simulated experience that can be similar to or completely different from the real world.
  • Hand Tracking: Technology that allows the detection and interpretation of hand movements and gestures.
  • APK (Android Package Kit): The file format used by the Android operating system for distribution and installation of mobile apps.
